Commercial Description:
At Terrapin we enjoy our rye and our smoke...beers. Volume 2 in the "Side Project" series combines a Rogenbier and a Rauchbier, two German classics. Roggen means rye, Rauch means smoke, and bier means beer. We love them all! Introducing Terrapin’s Roggenrauchbier. With a slight hint of spice from the rye malt and a pleasant overtone from the smoked malt this beer has two great tastes that taste great together.

(Draught) Pours hazy deep amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of rye, smoke, caramel, and dusty. Flavor of rye, smoke, earthy, dry roasted nuts, and somewhat candish.

It’s starting to really feel like Autumn the last couple of days, and I’m so ready for a good smoked beer. Thanks to JCB for the bomber.
Burnt orange color with a medium, fizzy head. Lovely smoky wood aroma with sweet caramel malt, a bit of cherries and finishing with some earthy spice. Medium to light bodied.

Bottle from gford217. Thanks!
Pours a clear brown reddish color with a light beige head. Smell is lightly smoky and malty. Taste is smoky but not overly so, and with a nice crisp malt flavor behind it. Not sure the rye is abundantly obvious, but it is good nonetheless, and crisp. Light hop bitterness. Not bad at all.

22oz bottle. Slightly hazy chestnut-walnut in color with a minimal head. Lightly sweet malt and a touch of smoke in the nose. This is a fairly drinkable brew with a touch of smoky malt and a noticeable bit of rye. Fairly clean for such an interesting brew. Medium body with plenty of carbonation.

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 22 oz bomber. Neutral aroma, very brief hint of peat. Dark copper pour - little to no head retention. Flavor has some BBQ sauce smoky sweetness - not overpowering or cloying. Some salty nuts, and a hint of Levi Garrett chewing tobacco and a hint of peat. Thick enough mouthfeel. Overall, let’s call this one average.

Bottle. Poured a dark amber with a huge tan head. Aroma of smoke and rye. Flavor is very smokey with a small bite at the end. I think this is very good. Not sure about all of the bad ratings. Maybe my smoke palate is not up to par with everyone elses.
