Ok, some smoke detected near the finish when it’s near room temperature. The flavor is pretty straight forward with a hint of rye and very little smoke. I need a bigger smoke flavor. This is hardly different than a lot of amber ales I’ve had. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 28, 2008 Trade from gottalottaibu, thanks! Pours a bright amber color. I get no smoke aromoa from this. Taste is clean, fairly malt forward. I detect no smoke, or rye for that matter. As it warmed I could taste a very very slight smoke aspect. I love rye and smoked beers, and I expected this to be a great meld of those, but neither flavor came out in this. Ended up being just a run of the mill lager. Still glad I got to try it. pintocb (510), Darsville, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Wow, what a color. Amber, dark, full of red highlights....OMG. One of the best looking beers I’ve had. The flavor was not very lager like, which is cool. The smoke was present but not over powering. I got very obvious caramel tones in the flavor, with some more subtle chocolate flavors. Medium body. I have no idea how to rate to style since it is one of my first smoked beers, but I liked it a lot. rudolf (1774), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Bottle via Secret Santa. Thanks! Rich copper, off-white head with nice lacing. Nose is an interesting combo of (unsurprisingly) rye & smoke. At first the smoke was somewhat hidden but it came out as the beer warmed. In addition to the obvious it showcases some nice caramels & noble hop aromas, a nice note of roastiness. Flavor is caramel, then a nice forward but not overwhelming smoke. Its joined by a rich maltiness, meladonins, a twinge of hops. Rye comes through at the end as a slight spiciness at the finish. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

Malty aroma the smoke is very subdued.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 25, 2008 Pours a pale copper tan with a thin frothy tan head. Some lively carbonation bubles on the side of the glass. The nose was a bit sweet, smooth and smoky, a tad spicy, grassy hop background, bready malt. Smooth woody smoke flavor, sweet caramel malt, earthy lager character. There is a mild grassy hop character. Slick oily mouthfeel and a mildly smoky finish. Not bad. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2008 The color was amber/medium brown with a lot of carbonation. The head was creamy, thin, and white. The aroma was light coffee, sweet, and faint licorice. The flavor was smokey, nutty, and coffee. The palate was very lively. The finish was roasty.
