Pours brown, with a medium beige head. Semi-malty aroma. Tastes more like some kind of scotch ale. I taste some caramel and chocolate, but there is NO smoke or meaty flavors that I would associate with a rauchbier. mar (1944), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 29, 2008 Light smoke on the nose with some caramel malts, very soft and smooth. Pours a rich reddish amber with dense off white head. Smooth smokey flavors with sweet caramel malts with hints of molasses and a nice spiciness in the finish, the rye perhaps. A solid beer, but i could use a little more smoke. Palidor19 (1792), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 28, 2008 Thanks to beerbill for sharing - clear copper beer - intense smoke and rye in the aroma suggests a powerful flavor, but it’s actually quite subtle - fairly creamy mouthfeel, but it is a little thin - mild smoke flavors work well with the lean malts - a little bit of caramel flavor - rye becomes present in the finish - not as impressive as the german-made ones, but pretty nice.
