Smells of light malts with a hint of roast. Nice clean tastes that isnt to filling and tastes like smoked malts. fredandboboflo (1417), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 26, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of smoked caramel malt and fruity tree (what the hell is fruity tree?) Flavor of smoked salami. A bit light-bodied, and quite bland. If there was no smoke, this would be awfully boring, with the smoke, it was passable. LilBeerDoctor (1526), East Setauket, New York, USA

Flavor of charrel malt with a charred, spicy kick in the finish. Not overly smoked though. Pretty drinkable. I’m not much of a fan of smoked beers, but I did like this one. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2008 This beer pours a beautiful clear red. There’s a definite smokiness coming in the aroma, but not overpowering. This smoke melds nicely with the malt in the flavor to create all sorts of cherry and wood effects. Surprisingly drinkable for a rauchbier. GeneralGao (3067), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2008 22oz bottle courtesy of nearbeer. Many thanks. Rich aroma of rye, hay, mixed cereal grains, subdued caramel, and brown sugar. There was only a whiff of rauch in the nose, but it was there. Poured a clear ruddy dark orange color. The head was off white and reduced after a minute or two to a thin film. Some lace was left behind on the glass at the end. Medium bodied and slightly sweet. Tasted of dry grains and a bit of smoked meat. The smoke flavor was light at first, but grew in magnitude somewhat toward the end. Interesting beer. The smoke was just right for me, and not as overbearing as in some of the German Rauchbiers I’ve tried. beerbill (1972), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2008 22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with TheBeerCellar. Pours a clear dark amber. Very pleasant aroma of light smoke and rye malt. The flavor is again light smoke and rye malt. The malt is rich with some light sweetness, while the smoke is subtle and not overpowering. Some smoked beers taste like liquified smoked sausage, which is thankfully most definitely not the case here. Lighter bodied than I was expecting, which is my only criticism. Overall, I liked this beer. jrob21 (1275), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2008 The most surprising thing about this is subtleness of the smoke, which I enjoyed. Not an overpowering beer by any means but very drinkable with some pleasant notes of smoke and rye. Pours a clear brown color. The rye malt is typical for these guys and comes through nicely in the grainy, toasty flavor. A little sweet on the long dry finish. Decent drink once again from these guys. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2008 Pours a clear, dark copper brown color. A small, foamy, cream colored head is quickly fleeting, and minimal, spotty lacing marks the glass. The aroma shows the distinct note of toasted rye grains, with caramel malt sweetness, smoke, earthy spice, and a hint of cream. The flavor is equally toasty, with clean rye cutting through the sweet malt, light smokiness enhancing the experience. Slightly less than medium bodied and lightly carbonated, it feels a bit too flat and watery in the mouth, but not exceedingly so. A slight letdown, but decent nonetheless.
