Not really that exciting, dynamic or enjoyable. It is really one dimensional and somewhat disappointing. There is hardly any smoke in here at all. It was a good Thursday night beer, while sitting in front of the TV.... basically a brown ale... but it’s not. Pours a light brown with little head. Pretty sweet on the front of the palate with a very light malt aroma. Slight hop bitterness on the finish. Kinda boring. Suttree (2734), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2008 Clear copper, with a smallish but dense head. More rye than smoke in the aroma, but it is there. Flavor is, well, smokey and rye-ish, like it says on the label. Not over the top in either category, but definately there. Flinty, earthy finish. slimchill (781), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Bottle from TURDFERGUSON. Nose is light caramel, grains, and smoke. Bright clear amber with a thin white hazy head and slow-rising carbonation. Thin but smooth. Very light on the smoke, mostly a really balanced sweetness. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Courtesy of Gillard. Pours clear copper with off white head. The aroma is mild with dark cherries, prunes, malts and just the faintest cigar like smokiness. The taste is amber malt sweetness with a bit of rye twang and lager esque amber lager notes. Very little smokiness. TURDFERGUSON (1604), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Well this was disappointing. I didn’t write any notes because there really wasn’t much to write. It was the lack of any real rye or smokey flavors that really stood out with this beer. A very poor showing from Terrapin. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 16, 2008 Thanks to Turd for sharing. Definitely weak as shit right off the start. Pours a slightly lighter than expecte, which is fine- medium coppery amber with a decnt white head. Aroma is shitloads of acetaldehyde and green apple- ugh- but some light rye spiciness and some wierd light smoke- lame. Spicy flavor some cinnamon, spice, phenolic, and more apple skin- acetaldehyde nonsense. Smokeis lingering in the background- rye is lame and not coming through at all. Just wait until my roggenrauchbock comes out in the fall. It will destroy this stuff. JJClark (546), Roscoe, Illinois, USA

Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium sized off white head. Aroma of rye, smoke, caramel and steamed vegetables. Taste is lightly bitter of rye, smokey, somewhat malty and meaty. Has a mild quality thoughout the whole process. Nice beer overall. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA

I feel like I’m supposd to be scouring for smoked meats, but all I taste is spiced tea and candi sugar and a whole lot of malt. Allspice, and perhaps cloves are present. I dunno-- this was weird.
