It poured an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma was of dirt, ash, band-aid, and smoke. Flavor is slightly lagery with mellowing malty tones. Very smooth once it mellow about mid-swallow. I would buy this again, and definitely cook with it. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

Pours out a brown color without much of a head. Smell is funky with some smoke in it. Nothing else really, the smoke pretty much masks it. Taste is smokey and nasty. Terrapin’s side projects are 0/2 for me. This shit was gross. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Some retention and lacing. Aroma is strange with notes of wet dog, smoke, roasted malts, nuts, bread. Flavor is strange as well, although better than the nose. Notes of roasted meat and veggies, malted barley, smoke and mild sweetness are present. Medium body with a smokey and malty finish. Good for a lager. Aroma - Smokiness is obvious and moderately assertive, some caramel and spice come through eventually
Appearance - Clear reddish brown with a medium off white head that settles quickly
Flavor - Nice dark toffee sweetness matches up well with the smoked malt, and the rye spiciness makes it’s presence known. There’s a slight tanginess in the finish, which seems neutral to me.
Palate - Medium bodyand carbonation, and there is a certain richness in the mouthfeel that is not expected. Smooth, goes down easily.
Overall - Seems like you either like smoked beers or you don’t, not many middle of the roaders. Personally, I like them, and I found this to be pretty good. Not super smoky like Schlenkerla, but not real subtle either. The rye malt adds another dimension that seem to match up well with the smoke. BeerandBlues2 (3225), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
