Roasted aroma of chocolate and caramel with notes of moke.
Roasted flavour of caramel, coffee, hops, pine needles and smoke.

Flavor: dark caramel and chocolate flavor with lots of balancing smoke, earth smoke and rye conspire to keep it dry, touch of caramel sweetness sneaks out at the end to balance the books

Flavor: flavor is all about the earth and smoke with just enough caramel for balance, touch of nut brown character
Overall: bottle is still very smokey contrary to popular belief

Sep 13, 2008 (Draught) Pours hazy deep amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of rye, smoke, caramel, and dusty. Flavor of rye, smoke, earthy, dry roasted nuts, and somewhat candish.

Feb 13, 2009 22oz bottle acquired in trade with emacgee (thanks!). Poured a medium to deeper copperish color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of some smoked meats, caramel, and rye. Tastes of caramel, some smokiness, rye bread, and some light spiciness. The smoke was stronger than the aroma and on the subtle side in the tastes. I did like the rye in this.

Dec 8, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a light tan head and amber color. Aroma is medium malt-some sweet, woody, smoky. Taste is smoky comes first then medium malt-some sweet, woody, rye, some hops balances a bit. OK effervescence.

Jul 15, 2008 Bottle… Clear copper lager with a small, off-white head. The aroma is lightly smoky with a major beef jerky influence. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Sweet and smoky with modest bitterness. Caramel and toffee. Crisp, lightly sweet, smoky finish. Kudos to mgumby10 for providing the bottle!

Nov 28, 2009 Bottle sampled on 6/28/08: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a thin-lacing light tan head. Aroma of grainy rye and nice smoky caramel sweetness. Body starts fairly full and toasty caramely sweet with a good balance of smokiness before a slightly drier bittersweet doughy finish. Very authentic and true to style, an enjoyable brew.
