The right mix of aroma and coffee to make it an excellent imperial stout.
Up there with some of the best coffee stouts, Dieu du Ciel’s Péché Mortel and Kentucky Breakfast Stout.
Update, with 2008 vintage on tap at Trappeze in Athens.
The beer has really gained a lot of coffee. Always pours the thick black, with yellow lacing.
I wonder how many cups of coffee one of these is equivalent to.
Remains very smooth, lots of oat and enjoyable. A really good sipper.
As it warmed up, the beer seemed to have gained some resinous notes. Soonah (970), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2008 Updated: May 14, 2008A bottle from footbalm via trade. The pour was the expected dark brown with some lighter highlights. A puffy, active tan/brown head emerged and was slow to settle. Spots of lacing clung to the side of the glass. The aroma was nice chocolate, shale rock, light coffee and even some tart fruit (grapes and raspberry briefly). The flavor was chocolate and burnt coffee with some acidic fruitiness coming through. The mouthfeel was average but the finish was clean. Nice, a step below Breakfast Stout IMHO. ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA

Absolutely amazing. Rich coffee and chocolate favors. The coffee taste goes perfectly with the natural favors of the stout. beerbill (1975), Laurel, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 27, 2008 I thankfully have 2 bottles of this beer thanks to trades with both TheBeerCellar and SoLan. Pours a dense black with a very rich looking dark brown head that lasted through the first few sips and left no lace. The aroma is superb with just the right amount of coffee and chocolate combined with some roasted malt. The flavor is very good as well and the coffee is thankfully not overdone. A bit less chocolate in the flavor than the aroma suggests. Some moderate coffee bitterness at the finish which is thankfully also not overdone. As the beer warms, some alcohol warmth emerges at the finish as well. Well done and enjoyable. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 27, 2008 DLD ’08. Dark dark brown with a dark tan head. Rich creamy light chocolaty coffee nose. Actual coffee smell, not like day old coffee smell. Round low carbonation, thinner body, but each drinking. Round full malty sweetness, but not rich and heavy, more light on the tongue. Creamy coffee. A lot like Founder’s breakfast stout, but not so substantial, not that that’s bad or good... I just like this beer quite a bit. ebrowner88 (113), Rice, Minnesota, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Jet black. Wierd delayed head. You pour and couple second later, a head appears. Nose is sweet espresso. No lace at all. Taste is sweet nutty coffee. Very thick, This is a man’s drink. Wide semi-sweet dry finish. Velvety, warm on the way down. Strong and thick like a liqueur. Friggin WOW. This is some beer. Couldn’t really have more then one but this must be experienced by any stout lover.
