Thanks Uncle Mattie. Big brown head and solid black . Nose is chocolates, coffee, burnt malts. Nice. Taste is a strong coffee flavor with oatmeal background. Very smooth, chewy, low carbonation. Just a little thin on the end and sweet and sticky. Overall a very nice beer.

12 oz. bottle - thanks to hank1980 for the trade; a little wake and bake plus terrapin (station) action - it’s gotta be the goods!! haha; pours thin and creamy; big dark head fades quickly; smells like chocolate cake w/ bitter coffee frosting; yummy!!! drinks with no bitterness and a sweet, dry finish; creamy texture and perfectly smooth; lots of coffee in the flavors, but also lots of sweetness and yes, it basically tastes like chocolate cake too; with all the flavor, nothing is overpowering (like the southern tier choklat is); just a great beer and one i could drink and drink and drink and drink....

Pours motor oil black. Thin head. Nose of coffee, chocolate, and a touch of malt. Taste like coffee on steroids. Great flavor of malt, caramel, and chocolate. Love it. Highly recommend.

vintage 2008 bottle from ucusty. pours thick and almost black with a dense brown head that leaves a little bit of lace. this smells like a good coffee shop... whole roasted coffee beans, chocolate, dark grains, toasted and caramelized hazelnuts and a little alcohol bite. the flavor is strong on coffee astringency, dark graininess, nuts and chocolate. there is a very off putting vegetal (hops or oats?) note half way in that makes me want to stop drinking. it finishes almost tart leaving behind an aftertaste of spent coffee grounds as the alcohol begins to warm the belly. medium body that thins as it warms with soft creamy carbonation. weird...8/4/5/3/12/3.2

2006 bottle from thebeersommelier/tbc/tbs/matt... whatever he goes by now! pretty viscous near black pour with a tiny brown head. the aroma is just straight rich malt/malt powder with lots of velvety chocolate, musty oats, wood and a bit of vanilla. the flavor’s got mucho molasses, slightly burnt black raisins, chocolate, a mild tartness and a little alcohol. lightly astringent dry finish. the aftertaste is very faintly coffee-like... maybe just nutty. medium body. very slick and seemingly still. wow, this is phenomenal 2+ years in!!! thanks matt! 8/4/8/4/16/4.0

Looks like a cup of coffee. Heavy looking, opaque black with a tan-brown head that settled into a faint ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma is all coffee with a slight booze aroma and maybe a touch of licorice if you can get beyond all the coffee. Flavor is all coffee, heavy roasted nutty flavor that doesn’t allow for much else. If you really search beyond the overwhelming coffee bitterness you might be able to notice a little grainy biscuit flavor and perhaps a touch of maple. Heavy mouthfeel and dry finish hide the strong alcohol. Coffee stouts can be tough going and this one could have maybe used a touch less coffee flavor. I love my stouts but this one was too one dimensional for me.

Bottle from ucusty. Pours pitch black with a thick tan head. Smells like coffee with subtle hints of roasted malt. Has a heavy mouthfeel that also has a silky creamy feel. Tastes like more coffee than oat or malt. Has a very subtle malt taste with a slight chocolate finish. But its mainly coffee through and through. Good brew as its very smooth from start to finish.

DAMN good beer here!! Pours black with a giant tan head. Very strong in all aspects. Aroma is almost exactly like a coffee oatmeal cookie (if such a thing existed), but very very boozy. Flavor is exactly like the aroma; lots of barley and malt, awesome oat taste, awesome coffee taste. Deliciously creamy and kinf of like mixing Souther Tier Oat with Bells Java Stout. Nice notes of chocolate in the flavor, and perfect oat and chocolate aftertaste, tons of roasty goodness. My one complaint is that it’s a little too boozy. That 8.1% is really evident in all aspects, which was a little off putting. But still a great beer. I want more of this!!
