2007 bottle. Pours generous bubbly tan head that doesn’t last long. Nose is all coffee grounds and hints of dark chocolate. Nice blend of sweet and bitter and great coffee flavor. The finish doesn’t last as long as I want it to. I’ve had 3-4 four-packs of this over the past two years, and I swing back and forth between loving it and just liking it quite a bit. Solid overall, but either it’s inconsistent or my desire for it is.

06 bottle, least infected one I’ve had out of five so I figured I’d rate it. Pours black with a huge tan head. Huge coffee aroma. Coffee, toasted malt, toffee, and just a bit of the oatmeal. Finishes way too carbonated which was unpleasant. Decent. I would love to rerate when I get a decent bottle of this.

On tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Pours your classic beautiful looking Impy stout, deep dark black with a nice light brown head. Superb aroma of vanilla, chocolate, coffee and lots of roastiness. The carbonation on this one is a little to bubbly and is distracting. Flavor is overly bitter and has a harshness to it that is definitely a let down from the aroma, still a good brew over all though.

From bottle : Pours very dark black, like oil, with a thin light brown head that doesnt last long. Nose is very strong coffee beans, with some chocolate. Taste is very very enjoyable. Strong coffee and malts, chocolate and a roasted quilities. Thick mouthfeel and goes down very smooth, no alcohol present at all. Very very good Impy Stout.

12 ounce bottle labeled 2006 thanks to timtheenchanta This beer surprise dme. Pours black, black, black into a pint glass with NO head or carbonation whatsoever. I turned my back for a second and when I looked again there was a perfect thick brown head! Where the hell did that come from? Smells like Hershey’s Syrup and Strong coffee. Very similar in appearance and smell to Founder’s Kentucky Bfast Stout. Full bodied malty flavor with huge chocolate and coffee bitterness. Slightly hoppy finish. Very thick, creamy mouth feel hides alcohol presence well. I am extrememly impressed with everything I’ve tried from them so far and looking forward to more!!

Pours a dark brown/black color with a huge brown head that fades relatively slowly. Smells faintly of coffee grounds to me. First I taste coffee. Second, coffee. Third, coffee grounds. Its good though. Carbonation is almost too much in this brew. Otherwise, this brew has a pretty nice mouthfeel. Good, but I’d rather drink Speedway.

2007 bottle. This one poured a dark black body with a medium sized foamy, tan head. The head settles quickly and leaves sudsy lacing around the glass. The aroma is really rich of espresso, fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, and some roasty and bitter smells as well. The smell of coffee in this one is incredible. The flavor is much the same with the espresso and roasted flavors upfront with some dark chocolate in the background. The oatmeal really smoothes this one out and gives a hint of sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium to heavy bodied and oily and goes down really smooth with the espresso flavors left behind in the finish. If you like coffee then this is the beer for you. This was really well done.
