My 2nd time with Terrapin and the first beer I had was a real disappointment. But this more than made up for it in every way possible. The beer pours out a thick, motor oil black, with a nice beige two-finger thick head. It really was an almost perfect looking beer. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, subtle molasses and chocolate notes too. Mouthfeel is full, thick and chewey. The flavors of this beer seemed to meld completely together, as the roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, and chocolate came together as one. Nothing really stood out stronger than the other and it was fabulous. Little to no noticeable alcohol taste, and mild carbonation made this one to remember. mcox90 (649), Wilton, USA

Mouthfeel is heavy and bubbly due to this being a very carbonated brew. Nose was mainly of coffee. This beer lives up to its name and description. The taste is overwhelmingly of coffee flavors. Maybe to much so. Still a very good brew. Drank at cellar temp so that may have intensified the flavors. miketd (684), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Aroma is coffee and some nice, roasty malts...although a bit subdued. Flavor is bitter with mostly coffee. I get a bit of metallic from the beer also. Very carbonated and fizzy...takes away from the body and flavor. Decent beer, but not my fave. Brigadier (1246), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

Thanks to Tom for sending this in one of two trades. I’ve been sitting on it for a while for no good reason. Since I want to clean out the cellar now seems a good time to crack it open. It’s pretty solid though I have another bottle to crack open. Since it is unlikely to age too well I should drink that one as well. If you want to give this a try in the near future drop me a line.
Aroma / Appearance - A huge sandy head surged to the top of the glass before settling to a nice one half finger height. The body is deep black with very aggressive lacing that leaves little foam chunks as it settles. Cinnamon, oatmeal, anise, cocoa and smoke comingle in the nose. Straight black coffee presses through after a while blended with gingersnap cookies. The overall impression reminds me of drinking a warm coffee while sitting amidst the shelves of a used bookstore.
Flavor / Palate - Cherries, smoke and black coffee hit the senses first. Next comes oatmeal, raisins and vanilla. It well balanced and not that strong for an imperial stout. A lingerinng maltiness reminds me of oatmeal with milk blended in. The mouthfeel is creamy but not sticky. For an imperial stout it is a little thin bodied. For a beer it is a solid all arounder. I was glad to give it a try; Terrapin has done a nice job here. Acknud (792), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 17, 2007 A very full body beer that pours very dark as well as producing a very indulging aroma with a mocha and espresso mix with hints of oats. I did detect a hint of chocolate. In all I would say this is a very good beer well done! It feels good to wake and Bake! gunnfryd (3603), Kristiansand, Norway

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Pours black with a huge brown head that’s very bubbly. Aroma is a kind of odd mix of chocolate and well roasted coffee, with some leaves, burnt caramel and sugar, and some licorice. Perhaps the hops are adding some weird leafy and spicy tones. Tastes is nice and sweet with plenty of chocolate, coffee and toffee flavors, a little tea and tobacco further back on the tongue. Finishes flavorful with a mixture of roast coffee, licorice and black tea. Some caramel too. Very very carbonated mouthfeel, puts some Belgians to shame, but I let the settle out. Otherwise the mouthfeel is thick, full and creamy, but very drinkable and not sticky. I’m docking some points for the overly giant head, otherwise it looks great. Although, there’s some elements that detract from a truely great imperial stout experience, that wouldn’t make me say no to this beer. Thanks jrob_21!
