2006 Bottle: Dark as night pour with a foamy mocha head. The fresh brewed coffee note dominates the nose, with a layer of chocolate and nut beneath. The body is overly carbed and detrimental to the style. More roasted beans fill the mouth, with fleeding notes of vanilla, baker’s chocolate and caramel into the dry finish. Unfortunately the spritzy carbonation stands in the way of this really meshing.

Charred black pour with a lasting crown of thin tanned foam. Astringent and soapy French roast oppresses shades of vanilla, cranberry and brown sugar on the nose. Unflinchingly sharp in flavor, jagged with burnt espresso bite and a metallic falseness. Momentary blueberry and caramel reprieves temper the assault, if slightly. More tolerable as warmth intercedes. Dense and smooth palate, marred vaguely by hollowness. Lacks cohesion and balance. Thanks John!

Bottle from trade with CaptainCougar. Pours a near black color with a HUGE frothy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and smoke. Taste is sweet, creamy of chocolate, malts and oats. Flavor is full and mild. An easy to drink very enjoyable experience. Finishes very smooth with the alcohol being nicely hidden.

Pours black with tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee and sweet malt. Taste was much of the same. Good combination and very smoothe.

Bottle from LARRY. Aroma is pretty nice, deep malts and coffee, chocolate. I’m not really liking the flavor of this one, though, very lactic, slightly sour, odd tropical fruitiness. More like a (legit) baltic porter or foreign stout, really.

2007 bottle from JCB. One of my favorite labels, hands down. Huge rush of coffee, enough to perk me up by smell alone, with strong notes of chocolate and malt, perhaps a touch of lactose. Extremely NOISY, excited, soapy light brown head over and opaque black body. Taste is of roast with a smooth sweetness about it, lots of chocolate with wood and slight toffee. Good coffee flavor with brawny flashes of dried fruit. Light, late bitterness to balance the leading sweetness. Somewhat chewy full body, and rather creamy and smooth. Aftertaste is only slightly warming, alcohol is well-integrated and not to be tasted, with a lingering milk chocolate and dry creamy roast aftertaste. One of the most relaxed imps one is likely to encounter, but with robust flavor and a great personality. Really good stuff - thanks, Jason!

bottle....appearance: holy head! monstrous and foamy tan head.....aroma: a bit let down by this as well as i didn’t get much coffee. it was mainly dominated by just sweet malt.....taste: chocolate and roasted malts. sweet malt and slightly bitter/sour finish. medium mouthfeel....i was expecting a little more of this one but all in all, not a bad imperial stout.

Trade from Ross, thanks man! First off I love the artwork on the bottle, too cool. Pours a deep dark brown with bg foamy head in my Duvel glass. It?s quite the coincidence I grabbed this glass as there is as much head in Duvel as this. Though, unlike Duvel the head on this fades after awhile. Aroma is a little disappointing as I had a hard time findng anything well pronounced. However there is a bit of coffee, roasted malt, milk chocolate and some metallic notes. Also, there is a bit of earth and yeast characteristics. The taste is quite the opposite of the aroma with more forthcoming flavors of coffee, chcolate, roasted malt and again some earth. The coffee really shines in the finish. Mouthfeel is superbly silky and gives no evidence of the abv%. The only downfall is the coffee is not as intense as expected from a coffee oatmeal impy stout. Still, tis is a solid brew which I would never turn down.
