| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 6, 2007 Pours a thick, rich black with a hazy light brown head. Smells of vanilla, oatmeal, and smooth caramel. Very nice. Just a lovely rich imperial stout. Heavy caramel vanilla flavor. Roasty malts and a touch of chocolate make up the end. This brew is very creamy and is smooth from start to finish. I can drink this one all the time. Not really any flaws. ogglethorp (890), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 5, 2007 Bottle via quagmite and drewbeerme, thanks guys! Pours inky black with a minimal tan colored head. Aroma is bitter coffee, roasted malt, some choclate. Flavor is the same. Palate is full bodied, mildly carbonated, bitter finish. Kick you in the nuts coffee flavor and aroma is nice but a little one dimensional, still excellent though. Ughsmash (4062), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Thanks to several people for bottles and also tried on tap... rating from a 2006 bottle. Poured a medium-viscocity black with not much head sticking around. Aroma picked up an array of dark malts with an overriding aire of soy.. very good coffee presence and dark chocolates.. some milkier chocolate and oats emerge with warmth. Flavor picked up rich medium-roast coffee, dark and milkier chocolates, and the soy again at the finish. Medium-heavily bodied with some grainy feel and bitterness from the coffee. Solid beer, but didn’t much care for the soy (don’t recall that flavor from having this on tap). JCB (1786), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2007 On draft at Tyler’s, Durham, NC. Having had this several times in bottles, I was delighted to try the tap version. Same huge coffee aroma, same inky body, and - alas - same mouthfeel. I was hoping for something a bit more viscous and creamy, as I feel that suits this beer’s many virtues. But hey, this is still a really enjoyable offering. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Boboski. Poured like black gold with small esspresso color head. Aromas of dark molasses, bitter chocolate and black coffee; taste had resinating black coffee on the back of the tongue with slight biter alcohol overtones. As it warmed, richer coffee and dark roasted barley came through. Amazingly med/light body with such a thick appearance in pour. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 16, 2007 Thanks to jasonmech77 for this longtime resident of my BeerList. Deep rusty black body with noticeable carbonation and a soapy deep tan head with an oily fade. Aroma of green and roasted coffee beans, green squash, and alcohol. Flavor is creamy sweet with medium roasty bitterness and light coffee acidity. Has some green grassy qualities. Nice array of dark malts emerge as it warms. Fizzy, mouthfilling carbonation and an oily texture. Overall this is good, but not great.
