There is very little head that is medium brown. The aroma has a very strong dark roast coffee smell, slightly sweet. The flavor has a very strong dark roast coffee taste that is slightly bitter. The palate is full and the finish is sightly bitter and warm. I am a huge coffee person and the flavor of the coffee in this beer is outstanding. emacgee (1888), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The head was almost nonexistent and tan. The aroma smelled strongly of dark roasted coffee, hints of chocolate, and roast. Tasted very strongly of coffee as well. Deep dark roasted taste, sweet, little alcohol, sweet chocolate, chocolate covered fruit. The palate was a little harsh and bitter. Alcohol shows with a rise in temperature. Excellent beer. theshocker (329), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2007 Pours black like motor oil, just looks thick and viscous. Small brown head fades quickly. Smells like a cup of coffee. Coffee is the first flavor to come through as well, with some chocolate, caramel, toffee...all the usual. Its pretty tasty to sip after dinner. Full body, creamy and heavy in the mouth. There’s a distinctive flavor that I usually pick up with beers made with oats that is thankfully not present in this one. brianprentiss (475), Portland, Oregon, USA

Sweet flavor with coffee, port wine, roast barley and rye. Too sweet. kimcgolf (832), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 22, 2006 This is everything it was said to be. Poured to a jet black, with medium dark brown head that lingered a while, then dissipated to some lacing. Actually, appearance was the only thing that was superb. Aroma was strong coffee, blended nicely with a hint of chcolate, and as the beer warmed, a whiff of alcohol. Taste was more of the chocolate coffee, just right for a winter warmer. Mouthfeel was thick and creamy, and the finish was long and warming.
Great job with this one Terrapin!!! TheEpeeist (1461), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Lightly fizzed dates, chocolate and more coffee. Oatmeal in the back. Rich and full but easy to drink. Simple yet solid. Juancho (225), Clearwater Beach, Georgia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 2, 2006 From a 12 oz bottle, though my local Taco Mac has it on tap. Pours the color of mollases and the aroma is reminiscent of it, though there is also coffee and oatmeal, they come togehter and smell soemwhat like a great root beer. Almost no head. I drank it out of a snifter and could have used some more aroma... but what the heck it’s a great beer. Dark chocolate, peat/smoke, bitter hops. The flavor lingers with a long espresso like finish. Very nicely executed.
