| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2009 This beer is black as they come, 2-stroke oil is an accurate descriptor of its body color. Lovibond-wise this is a >25, easily in the deepest tier of dark. During the pour the beer produced no head, and only when it was immediately finished pouring did it yield a resemblence of a head, welling up for a second with brown effervescence before returning to flat pitch. The taste is very complex, with flavors ranging from dark chocolate, milk chocolate, nutty flavors, to mild espresso, the beer picks up a licorice flavor, with a comparison on par with the non-alcoholic flavors of opal nera sambuca. The aromas very much match the flavors, the dominant notes are the chocolate and roasted nuts. The flavors create a very inviting desire to sample this black bevy. As the beer comes to its desired temperature it’s aroma enhances and picks up some licorice. The beer is rich and velvety, very creamy, not too astringent, and not at all overpowering. The beer leaves the feel and afterthoughts of a chocolate covered espresso bean in your mouth, of course without the grit in your gums. mholdefer (5), Northport, Alabama, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Aug 16, 2009 One of the best beers I’ve ever tasted - like an oatmeal cookie dipped in an espresso - with a long lasting lacy head and a full bodied flavor - get one if you can BeerGuyTWMore (48), USA

Aromas of (you guessed it!) coffee and oats with a roasty malt. Flavors start with a sweet roasted malt/ oat combo quickly overpowered by burnt coffee grains and soft sweet oat on the finish(full-bodied). Coffee bitterness remains on the palate. Nothing too complex but pretty tastey. drowland (1429), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
