bottle from capone’s (welcome to Philly Terrapin Beer!). Pours a thick, viscous black with a rich tan head with fine carbonation. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, licorice and roasted malts (though the aroma is a bit underpowered for some reason). Velvety smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is at first sweet and malty and it quickly transforms to a coffee bitter before ending with a nice hop bite. Normally I don’t like flavored beers, but this is a really really good coffee stout.

2009 Bottle. Pours a jet black hue with a thick tan head that sustains and leaves creamy lacing on the glass. Nose is dominated by huge roasted coffee and espresso aromas, hints of very light grassy hops. Flavor follows suit with coffee, roast, and milk chocolate malts dominating from the start, moderate hop bitterness and mild hop earthy-grassy flavors for balance, hints of oats perceived more in the texture but also present, finishes slightly sweet. Full body, creamy smooth and velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Overall, a prime example of a coffee stout with excellent balance and texture, the 8%abv is well-masked but this is so filling that I don’t think I would drink more than one at a time, delicious!

On tap at Taco Mac. Poured black as coal with a finger of dense tan head. Aroma is coffee, coffee, coffee. So is the taste, with some added notes of bittersweet chocolate and sugar. It reminded me of an Americano. If you like coffee, booze, and mixing your pleasures, you’ll enjoy this beer.

This one can hang with the best of em’. I’m not a coffee drinker but the aroma is coffee in this beer is simply amazing. The color is jet black, and it pours somewhat like syrup. Very Very enjoyable.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass produced a brown head with black body. Aroma of roasted coffee and molasses. The flavors were complex and it seemed that every sip was different. Taste of roasted espresso beans, pepper, burnt sugar, smoke, and bittersweet chocolate. Highly enjoyable ale.

crazy insane dark coffee head on it which makes it thats much more appealing.not as heavy as i thought but definitly packs a punch at 8.1%. bitterness of coffee beans with a nice oatmeal finish makes it a great beer to warm up with.the aroma is jumping with coffee and (to me) chocolate.let sit for about 5mins to really open it up.silky on the tounge.

draft. Huge breakfast stout filled full w/ smooth oatmeal, strong straight up coffee, bakers chocolate, & booze. The coffee is a bit too much for me but thats this beer strong point really. Jittery drunk.

Solid black pour with a thick brown head. Aroma is heavy espresso, milk chocolate, and roast coffee beans. Taste is more like coffee than beer with a sweetness beginning then hits the back of the tongue unleashing bitter coffee. Rich velvety smoothness with mild carbonation. Finishes with coffee and cocoa flavors.

A: Pours an ink black with a monstrous head that settles down nicely to a small espresso colored ring. This one is very carbonated, which I guess leads to the large initial head. Fine lines of bubbles could be seen racing to the top up until the very last gulp. S: Nothing too special here. There are hints of coffee and milk chocolate, but nothing to really brag about. T: I was surprised this is a great stout. Up front I taste fine dark chocolate, which is quickly over taken by the taste of fresh brewed coffee. It finishes off with just a little smoke to make this one taste good from start to finish. M: I would call it medium for a stout. It is rather creamy which helps it to go down easily.
