Commercial Description:
The 1901 Champagne Velvet Pilsener is one of the early "Golden Beers". The historic recipe is however different in flavor than what most of us are accustomed to in a pilsener beer. Budweiser®, Coors® and others are primarily barely and rice, rice being plentiful and reasonable in cost. Champagne Velvet Pilsener is primarily barely and corn flakes. Being in the corn belt I am sure the Terre Haute Brewing Co. used corn flakes 100 years ago for the same reason Anheuser-Busch uses rice today. There certainly is a difference in flavor. C.V. is truly a full bodied pilsener that is sparkling as Champagne and smooth as Velvet.

A great beer to replace all those macro-beers everyone is "used" to. Good reason to go to Terre Haute too.

This draft brew poured a small head of finely sized mostly lasting white colored bubbles that left behind a poor lacing. The body contained very soft carbonation, was transparent and yellow in color. Its aroma contained notes of malt hops and was very mild. Its mouth feel is initially tingly with a smooth palate and a hop finish. Its flavor contained grass pilsnerish malty hoppy notes. A slightly below average brew.

Draft at BW3 Downtown Indy. Small white head that was creamy and smooth with fine size bubbles that mostly diminished. Very little carbonation, transparent and a yellow hue. Aroma was malt, light hops, sweet, and corn. Flavor was malty and some hops with an unpleasant lingering aftertaste. Excellent lacing.

On tap at the tap room. Light yellow body, some lacing, no head. Body was thin with sweet malts (corn for sure here). Finish was nice - light pepper and dry.
