Commercial Description:
Nitro Keg Ale and Canned Widget Ale. An export strength beer brewed specifically for countries outside the UK. It has the same smooth and creamy characteristics as Tetley's Smoothflow and incorporates a full drinking flavour. It is well balanced with a complex range of malty and hoppy notes, enhanced by a fruity aroma. Like Tetley's Smoothflow, it is served at 8°C to give extra refreshment.

I had this on tap at the Ren Faire in Bristol, IL. It poured a deeply golden/amber with a fine creamy head. The nose was a little bland, a sort of hoppy grassiness. The palate, though, was far better than I was expecting. A very creamy flavor with light citrusy notes set against grassy hops and butterscotch in the background. A welcome surprise on a hot day.

Overall a great beer for only 3.6 percent. I had this in a can, and it said 3.6 but this site says 5, so maybe the Canadian can versionis lower?? Anyways, the beer pours a amazing golden colour with a huge creamy white head. A slight bitterness does not detract from the fruity aroma which is the predominant taste. Had in can, but can get on tap at Kilkennys Irish Pub, Calgary AB.

From the widget can to a pint glass - Love the pour from these widget cans, nice reddish brown with thick building foam head. Creamy smooth caramel malts with a hop bitterness on the pallet. Body is a little weak all around with a mildly bitter finish.

The aroma is very light, nothing jumps out as a hint to the flavor. After the pour finishes it is a pretty orange hued amber, with a big frothy/foamy head. I really like the nitrogen widgets, and their resulting pours. The flavor is very mellow, the a touch of malts, and very light hops. An enjoyable beer, But there are better bitters.

From a 14 ounce widget can. Pours dark browm with the usual huge boiling head. settles out with a modest head that stays around ’til the bottom of the glass. Nice herbal aroma. Relatively flat after the pour as is typical of the style. The taste is sweet malts with a nice bitter hop finish. The can says 3.8% abv. A decent session ale. Very sessionable. Would like to try the real deal in England.

Much like Boddington’s. Light creamy head, nice color, goes down easy. Seemed to be slightly less bitter than Boddington’s. Nothing exceptional, but a solid bitter.

Pours brown with a nice big frothy head. Aroma is almost like a cider, with apple, carmel, no bitterness detected in aroma. Taste is nothing like the aroma. It’s a little bitter, but very smooth. Malt is present, but the taste is otherwise pretty weak. Body is very smooth. Finish is mildly bitter.

Pours into my 25cl tulip glass with a frothy, almost creamy consistency, light tan colored head that settles out to be about three-fingers in height. The beer is a brilliantly clear, red-hued copper color, that shows a rich copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells characteristic of a widget can (almost tinny in its light beeriness). Slight butterscotch, a hint of toffee and a dusty, almost stale malt note that is very faint as well.

Very smooth tasting as the beer is practically dead of all carbonation. Definitely creamy in consistency and very light and quaffable, this beer just slides down my throat, almost without me noticing it at all. This finishes with a slightly metallic, light hop note. Faint sweet maltiness is noticeable after a couple sips at the fore of each sip; slight toffee, and a touch of caramel is what comes through the most. There is some soft, herbal hop notes to this brew as well.

At first this beer was really bland in both flavor and aroma, but the flavor picked up a bit after a short bit. This does seem to have a low level of diacetyl, but it is very mild and actually seems to add a bit of welcome complexity to the beer, even for me who is so sensitive to it. This is certainly not objectionable, though I am not sure I would ever consciously choose to drink another one of these.
