Nitrokeg @ Millstone in Bolton. Not as flavourful as the non-nitro version. Bland really, magnified by being served too cold.

Tetley bitter on tap at Beehive Liverpool. Basically this is brown water in a glass with the merest hint of hops. Eventually had to buy a bottle of Mann’s brown ale just to liven it up a bit

Can (original). (Jul 05) Excessive toffee malt, some vegetal hops. Minimal bitterness and thin bland body. (2 2 3 2 9)

Keg (Oct 05). Worst beer of the night on a crawl in Exeter round non-real ale pubs. This was quite frankly rubbish overly sweet with husky notes and again too much caramel. These enticing aromas led into the soapy delights and tinny bitterness of the body that had been chilled into submission. (2 2 1 1 2)

Apparentley, only cranky whiny people drink this one, according to the bartender, a thick smooth beer, not too bad

Sad to think I used to down a few of these, at our local watering hole, every other Sunday. It has become another of Britain’s ales that have slowly evolved into the watery ’looks good in a pint’ drain pours, since the invention of the keg. Pours (Kegged & Can) a clear light copper, with an inch of off-white foam. Aroma, if any, of honey-malt and table sugar. Flat and lifeless mouth feel, cardboardy mid-palate, and a husky grain swallow. It’s ’very smooth’ head conceals anything else from paying a visit. By the end of the pint, a little tangy hops and sweet malt, finally made an entrance, but by then it was too late. Would love to taste this beer on cask, as it is ’Barely there’ on draught. Water!?!
