Mar 17, 2005 Bottle. Orange-red, clear, tan head. Very fruity aroma with a carmel malt presence. Very malty fruity flavor with low hop bitterness. Feels like a big full beer on the palate. Malty finish.

Feb 27, 2005 Very dark for a bitter. Uh… very unique aroma. Very, very strange flavors. I’m not sure if this bottle is good. There are soaring off flavors dominating, a bit licorice and rome apple. Very little bitterness and some sweetness. This was interesting and totally undrinkable. No date. Given the other ratings I would seriously question this review and I will re-rate when possible. Feb 26, 2005 I’m not a fan of the caramel malts so this was not my style. Reminds me of our local Schlafly Scotch Ale.

Jan 31, 2005 Pours ruby with dense medium head. Aroma is sweet and of caramel and toffee. There are also hops in the aroma earthy with a bit of pine and citrus. Flavor is malty and quite bitter. An esb that is actually bitter, what a find. Finishes with a smooth bitterness. Good bear overall.

Jan 13, 2005 Has a dense coppery color (not quite cloudy) with a foamy cream to tan colored head. A nose of malty caramel. Toasty flavor, more caramel and a hint of fruit... very smooth, not as overpowering as I expected. Thick lacing. Slightly bitter aftertaste with a hint of apple.

Jan 7, 2005 Cloudy dark brown color with fairly decent tan head. Solid buttery caramel, malty aroma. Full flavored. The same buttery caramel, toffee, slightly fruity, maybe scorched wood, malty, scotch whiskey and a little twangy flavor. A touch of a bitter finish but not overpowering in the least. Good density to this one. Full body and creamy. Flavors are nicely blended. Tastes much different than other ESB’s I’ve had. More enjoyable. Generally not my cup of tea but a nice change.

Dec 16, 2004 Hazy brown in color with a moderate tan head. Standard English ale aoma of good caramel malt and some mineral stale ale smell. Flavor that backs the aroma in spades with a big body and a bit of tartness (maybe from age.) Overall quite good but I’m not quite sure what makes this one an ESB. I guess the emphasis on caramel malts.

Dec 9, 2004 Poured dark brown with a dense off white head. Slight nutty aroma. Buttery and smooth, very drinkable, a really good ESB.
