Nose of overripe dark fruit covered in caramel, toffee, with a touch of molasses. Well balanced sweet malt & soft hops. Light- bodied, fizzy carbonation, bitter-sweet finish. Not bad, not great.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 13, 2004 Sparkling clear, orange ale with a small, fizzy, quickly dissipating head. The aroma holds light notes of molasses, caramel and dark fruit. The flavor is well-balanced. Just a touch tart. Toffee notes, light buttermilk, molasses and dark fruit. Light-bodied with a very lightly creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, lightly bitter, watery finish. loomis (43), Ohio, USA

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jun 23, 2004 I found this one to be a bit too bitter for my taste. I have had really good ESB’s, and I have had some that were not so good. This one, unfortunately, falls into the latter category. bb (2941), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 16, 2004 Bottle. Dark amber brown with a decent off-white head. Aroma of grassy hops and sweet caramel malt. The flavor is mostly sweet malt with a little roastiness/peatiness. Not a typical ESB, but good none-the-less. jeffc666 (1896), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 4, 2004 Murky brownish ruby body topped by a frothy light tan head. Looks like a cask ale. Malty nose, very little in the way of hops, caramel and peat. The flavor is also very malty, not hoppy at all. Me thinks that the Welsh have a differnt view of what an ESB is then most of us. Alcohol creeps up on you after the swallow, body is rather watery. An intersting brew that would be much better pulled from a hand pump. beerguy101 (3971), Newark, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 3, 2004 Dark Red amber color. Small head. Aroma is malty, woody, smoky and a touch fruity. A medium bodied bitter. Malts are smoky and peaty. Smoke and wood. Seems more like a scotch ale than a bitter, the smoke and peat flavors are prevalent. Smooth tasting, a touch sweet. There is a lot of sherry like flavors as well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
