TampaBrew (804), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2009 #800! Pours a hazy amber with no head. Nose is bourbon, fresh wood, candied yams, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, booze and ripe fruits. Flavor is mild bourbon, earthy wood, sweet yams, slight musty oxidation, aromatic pumpkin pie spices, huge sweet malt backbone, rich chocolate covered cherries. Phenomenal beer. One of the best barrel aged beers I have ever had. It lends itself perfectly to that style. drewbeerme (2268), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 14, 2009 thanks to kan for sharing! pours murky brown with very small off white head. nose is yammy, vanilla, butterscotch. flavors are yams, spicy, vanilla, dark fruit, hot booze too. masonjer (563), Holt, Michigan, USA Nov 9, 2009 Big thanks to Kan for sharing this. Poured a murky brown with small off white head. Aroma was sweet potato, spice and a bit of bourbon. Taste is more sweet potatoes, spice, brown sugar, and a touch of bourbon. Overall fairly light on the barrel character. Nice beer, a good one for fall for sure. pantanap (1334), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 9, 2009 750ml bottle from johnc. Thought I had recorded this one from Friday night but apparently never saved... Poured a medium cinnamon/amber brown without much of a head... Inviting maple aroma of sweet potato, nutmeg, spice, and bourbon... Flavors were much improved from the original batch of autumn maple and this time with some carbonation with obvious notes of yams, maple, light, spices, and bourbon barrel aged notes. Thin to medium bodied. Pretty tast. kmweaver (2429), Sebastopol, California, USA Nov 8, 2009 750mL bottle, courtesy of iowaherkeye. Thanks, Joey! Pours a slightly green, oily, yellowish-brown color; thin off-white head with minimal lacing. Gorgeous, gorgeous nose; very generous, sweet bourbon and lightly charred barrel character; touches of caramel apples, oily, no alcohol, honey; awesome. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: nicely warming bourbon and sweet vanilla notes; touches of sour mash; oozing honey and brown sugar; minimal alcohol; just a huge improvement to the standard version of this beer; great barrel notes. Gorgeous and well-presented. Lasting finish: brown sugar, sweet bourbon, vanilla, and viscous, oozing barrel notes; nicely toasty at the far end. douglas88 (1573), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 7, 2009 750 ml bottle thanks to Eric! Pours a dark brown color with a off-white medium head. A sweet malty/spicy nose, very little barrel. A spicy flavor, yams, sweet malts, light barrel, a spicy rye flavor perhaps. Drinkable and pretty easygoing. Nice. iowaherkeye (1844), Bakersfield, California, USA Nov 7, 2009 750mL bottle, no date from the brewery.Pours a murky brown with a small yellowish ring, small bubbles cascading to the surface. Lots of bourbon and sweet potatoes in the aroma with some caramel--wow this blends very well. Actually reminds me of sweet potatoes baked with marshmellows. Flavor has the sweet potatoes being a little less sweet, and the barrel a little stronger and drier. Semi-dry, minimal bitterness. Just a little spicy. Big full body with light carbonation. Very nice. j12601 (1180), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle at the release of Flaming Fury. Pours a somewhat murky brown color. Bourbon, light isopropyl notes, sweet, and definitely smelling like yams. Tastes of sweet molasses, and yams. Light bourbon and a little bit of sweetness on the finish. This was tasty.
