stefanje (552), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jul 8, 2008 750 ml bottle from Bev4less. Hand numbered 239/2157 and autographed by the brewer. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a fine small white head. The aroma is rich with a number of fruits--cantaloupe, musk melons, peaches and apples. Besides the fruits, there is a bit of dust and oodles of distinctly Belgian yeasts. The flavor, like the nose, showcases a good many sweet fruits--apricots stand out in the forefront, with peaches and pears rounding the sides. The mouthfeel is light with a slight malty feel, the carbonation is lively and prickly. The finish is long with lingering apricots. Overall: I am not really a big fan of this yeast character, it kinda reminds me of some trippels; but that aside, this is a well brewed beer and I’ll probably put a bottle into the cellar and see how it ages. Recommended for big Belgian fans.
eaglefan538 (2052), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Sep 5, 2008 Bottle shared by sloth at State Line. Pour was full amber-ish color, nice generous white colored head with some splotchy lacing on the way down. The aroma was fruity, spicey, malty sweet. The flavor followed, definite big malt presence, but also a ton of grass and spicey zing to the hop finish, off-aftertaste, plasticy-chemical? The floral and spicey notes combined to give that styrene or off-plastic type flavor I’ve had in a few beers, and not in a great way. Too much malt sweetness to be excellent, but a nice brew. Thanks again, Bert, always good times, had been a while, too long! Cheers! golubj (990), Redwood City, California, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle shared at the CA-GA cultural beer exchange hosted by alexanderj. Clearish gold, looks like a pilsner. Aroma is pilsner malt, same yeast as the other bruery beer I had, and some more malt. Flavor is spicing, kind of good, cinnamon and clove, with yeast and the same harsh alcohol / yeast palate. I don’t think I like the yeast that this brewery uses. pantanap (749), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 29, 2008 750ml bottle (1880/2157). thanks to andrew for popping this open for a night-capper. i told you that you shouldn’t try and finish it!.... poured a dark orange brown with a thin soapy white head.... semi-spicy and sweet syrupy aroma with lots of sugar...... flavors were for the most part sweet and sugary which also packed some heat that lasted well through the finish. this one needs to be sat down for some time but i’m not sure how much better it can get. BrotherGrendel (135), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottle #566 from Hollingshead. Clear orange hue with a thick amount of white head that gradually dissipates. Nose is apples, pears, yeast, cloves, and alcohol. Taste is pepper and spices with apples and light fruit syrup, yeast midway, finishes spicey and sweet with alcohol warming. Medium-bodied, with thick prickly texture. A decent ale with dominating spice profile and moderate alcohol presence, a bit heavy over time. JMFG (1140), Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 Sampled from bottle courtesy SoLan, purchased @ Liars Club during RBSG. Hazy copper-orange color with a thin white head. Slightly fruity aroma, coriander, orange peel, some Belgian yeast, real heavy on the coriander. Real sweet start, heavy on the spice, sweet finish. Sure didn’t taste like 11%.
