Commercial Description:
Black Orchard is an unfiltered, bottle / keg conditioned Belgian-style black wheat beer, or “black wit”, if you will. This dark but surprisingly light bodied beer is very drinkable while still having character and complexity. Chamomile is added for its floral aroma, while the coriander and citrus peel give the characteristics of a traditional witbier. (ABV: 5.7%, IBU: 15, SRM: 26, Release: Year Round, Format: 750 mL bottles and 30L kegs)

Dark reddish black, big, rich thick tan head. Smells cakey, spicy, maybe a few fruity notes. A bit tart, as well. Has a nice winey flavor, plus some gingerbread. Surprisingly refreshing, as well. There are a few smoky notes as it warms.

Pours out almost black with a light caramel colored head which shrinks down to almost nothing rather quickly. There is a small amount of toffee colored sediment in the bottom of the glass. A funky sour floral aroma. Surprisingly light body with a light mouth feel. Flavor is very smokey with some black tea-like herbal notes. A very light finish leaving a little bitter aftertaste.

Pours pitch black and completely opaqye without even the slightest bit of lighter colored edges when held tp a light source and a three finger frothy, soapy yellowish beige head. Decent retention, slowly fading into a lasting cap. The aroma has the characteristics of a traditional wheat beer with a nice twist. Bready/yeasty notes with hints of corriander, citrus peel and ripe banana as well as some slight toasted malt, dark fruit and oatmeal. Flavor is very similar to aroma. Medium bready, yeasty body with a very prominet citrus peel character. Hints of spicy pepper, lemon zest and corriander. Lemon and orange peel with a bit of clove and ripe banana acompanied by a slight toasty roasted malt, oatmeal and dark fruit flavor. Very well-balance and quite quaffable. Another interesting, unique beer from the brewery.

(Draught) Poured black with medium sized white head. Aroma had blueberry and general berriness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Berries, malts, fruitiness, lightly roastedness, bitterness and hops could be found from the taste. Malts, hops and bitterness remained in aftertaste.

Bottle spit with friends poured into pint glasses. There was a short lived white head on a black bodied beer. The first thing I got from the nose was a whiff of yeast followed by a ton of roasted malts. One person did pull some orange aroma but I couldn’t. The flavor to me was pure roasted malts as well I think the problem was because it was extremely carbonated and the carbonation took away from experiencing anything else. It really didn’t remind me of a wit at all. I finished the glass but that was enough for me. I really hope their other brews are better. This was the first from them I tried, and I not to impressed

Pours a very dark brown this a thin white head. Aroma is distinctly Belgian. The flavor is not quite what I was hoping for. A roastiness and sweet chocolate flavor with the underlying flavor or the Belgian yeast. I think I was hoping for a little more punch to the flavor. It’s a good beer, but not great.

nose is roast oats and a touch of grape or black cherry. appearance is opaque center, brown edges with lingering head and active but small carb. flavor is belgian spice largely with light roast notes. palate is unlike what the color seems to dictate.

Bottle @ HJ Hansen, Odense. Pours dark brown with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose and taste is mildly roasted. Some chocolate and caramel. Spicy roasted flavor with hoppy notes in the end. Full bodied. Tasty
