Commercial Description:
Black Orchard is an unfiltered, bottle / keg conditioned Belgian-style black wheat beer, or “black wit”, if you will. This dark but surprisingly light bodied beer is very drinkable while still having character and complexity. Chamomile is added for its floral aroma, while the coriander and citrus peel give the characteristics of a traditional witbier. (ABV: 5.7%, IBU: 15, SRM: 26, Release: Year Round, Format: 750 mL bottles and 30L kegs)

750 ml bottle of possible infection or subpar beer, I’m hoping it’s the former. Poured a deep dark brownish/black with a ridiculously large beige frothy head that started to overflow from the bottle, hence my hint of a possible infection. The aroma had that classic, I’m sour and have vinegar notes but they don’t belong. The remainder of the aroma was notes of cereal grains, mild chocolate malts, spices, and sour milk. The body on this one was screaming infection...complete and total foam shooting up for almost two minutes upon opening. The flavor has lots of vinegar, moldy old bread, old chocolate, soy and lactose. God dammit where on my profile does it say send me infected beers?? I love beer but it seems lately I am getting way too many infections.....seriously.

750ml bottle @ Immy’s Backyard Throwdown. Pours hazy copper in color with full foamy tan head. Aroma malty, sweet and spicy. Taste malty, spicy and citrus orange with bitter finish.

Pours very dark with a dark red tint and a good sized tan head. The aroma has toasty malt, appropriate sweetness, gentle spice, hints of orange and an angel food cake sort of quality - quite pleasant. Medium light body with lots of lively carbonation. The aroma has toasted gentle malt with no bitterness, bit sweeter than the aroma (it’s a clean sweetness), sharper orange and more pronounced spice aspect. The finish has various spices with some coming across as sharp and some as gentle. The angel food aspect is coming out on the finish as well. A great beer and very unique.

Metro Tasting. Poured dark brown and just kept fizzing out of the top of the bottle. Poured with a giant head. Aroma was huge spice, dry barnyard notes and toasty malt. Taste was spice as well, a bit of roast, earthy hops, light juicy fruit. This didn’t blow me away, but I enjoyed it. Seemed like a black saison to me.

75 cl bottle. Black with a thin, fine, off-white head. Dry chocolate aroma with funky yeast and dark fruits. Vegetal and chocolate flavors, with dark malts, light fruit, and a bit tart. Belgian style yeast character is a bit too strange.

Bottle @ BevMo. Pours dark with a thick black color, tan head. Aroma is dark fruits: raisins, currants, dates. Flavor is nice and not overly sweet. Kind of like a cross between a Belgian Ale and a Brown Ale.

Pours a dark, black body with a pretty substantial tan head. Aroma is dark malts, spices, wheat, dried fruits and spices. Flavor is that dried fruits flavor, spices, notes of spices, wheat. Lacing is pretty nice along the sides of the beer.

Bottle @ Bailey’s Taproom... Poured near black with an off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits (very grape-like), malt and spices. Dark malt and plum/fruit flavors. Lighter body and other flavors of herbs and a vegetable quality (like root or cauliflower). Light, sweet malts towards the end.
