Commercial Description:
Black Orchard is an unfiltered, bottle / keg conditioned Belgian-style black wheat beer, or “black wit”, if you will. This dark but surprisingly light bodied beer is very drinkable while still having character and complexity. Chamomile is added for its floral aroma, while the coriander and citrus peel give the characteristics of a traditional witbier. (ABV: 5.7%, IBU: 15, SRM: 26, Release: Year Round, Format: 750 mL bottles and 30L kegs)

Bottle: pours dark black with a foamy tan head and a lot of carbonation, wheaty and citrus aroma and flavor. Interesting beer but not something I’ll buy again.

On tap @ Toronado. Pours a black color with a lasting tan head. Caramel aroma, very sharp w a hop note; some dark fruits. Chocolate taste quickly gives way to dark cherries, deeply complex bittersweetness. Sweet finish, worth a try.

Bu à la Fête Bière et Saveur 2009, le 5 septembre. Brune très foncée, mince collet. Arome de malte chocolaté fruité. Goût de malte cafiné très roti, beaucoup d’amerturme avec une finission sucré. Une bière au café belge!

Draught. Poured black with thin head. Aroma of chamomile and citrus, like a cup of herb tea. Medium body and flavour, wheatiness, citrus and that Belgian yeastiness. Unpleasant tealike finish.

From the Bottle at Dr Bill’s Tasting Falling Rock Tap House, Denver 10/10/2008 Floral and slightly spicy aroma. Dark coloured and a little rich on the palate with a smoked flavour. Crisp and dry malt finish.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy brown color ale with a quite large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of funky yeast with some fruity ester and some great Belgian malt also noticeable. Taste is a very well balanced mix between some floral malt with notes of funky yeast ester and a great malt backbone. The spices are well integrated in the mix and don’t play such a prominent role. Body is quite full with great carbonation. Very well done and definitely underrated from this fine brewer.
