Commercial Description:
Black Orchard is an unfiltered, bottle / keg conditioned Belgian-style black wheat beer, or “black wit”, if you will. This dark but surprisingly light bodied beer is very drinkable while still having character and complexity. Chamomile is added for its floral aroma, while the coriander and citrus peel give the characteristics of a traditional witbier. (ABV: 5.7%, IBU: 15, SRM: 26, Release: Year Round, Format: 750 mL bottles and 30L kegs)

25.4 oz bottle. Took a while to calm this one down even after pouring a glass as a tan foamy worm kept pushing its way out. Really black with rising bubbles. Nose is butter, maybe some cocoa and orange peel. Prominent prickly carb with a wheaty smoothness. Taste is subdued orange and spices with hints of chocolate in the finish. Nicely sessionable.

Draught at The Red. Black with a tan head. The aroma is yeasty, with some apple skin and yoghurt stuffed in. The flavor is spicy, but otherwise hard to define; after my first sip, I wasn’t really sure that it had any describable flavor because it was so motley. There is some roast, but in a completely debittered way, some caramel, and yoghurt but without any tartness. Light-medium body with ample but smooth carbonation. The flavor is just so all-over the place that I’m not really sure what to make of it. Odd.

Bottle. Pours a dark hazy brown with a large off white head. Nose is dusty, light fruit notes with a light dry malt note. Palate is medium with a nice light fizz and a filminess. Flavors are dusty and dry with a light kind of cherry note.

Dark murky amber with a fluffy head. Aroma is a bit roasty and malt sweetness and some bread and yeast. Taste is similar. Caramel, bitter roast and a little spice and earthyness.

Courtesy Phillybeer. Light black pour with a huge head, lots of carbonation. Floral, spicy aroma with dried orange peel and coriander. Light spicy earthy body with some funk and bitterness. Interesting mix of flavors.

Courtesy phillybeer. Black/brown/ruby. Small tan head. Mild aroma- spicy, yeasty, sweet/rich?. Witbier flavor with a bit of black malt bitterness. Medium/light body, well carbonated.

75 cl bottle. Black with a thin, fine, off-white head. Dry chocolate aroma with funky yeast and dark fruits. Vegetal and chocolate flavors, with dark malts, light fruit, and a bit tart. Belgian style yeast character is a bit too strange.

Bottle. Aroma very intense with spices of all sorts, almost herbal, some smoke, as well as some light cookie malt and average yeastiness. Flavor of dark, lightly roasted malt meshing with the spices, though not nearly as intense as in the nose. Yeast continues to be present but not overbearing. Prickly carbonation was a massive distraction for much of the duration of consumption, only subsiding toward the very end and revealing more cookie and chocolate malt notes. Overall...I guess I just wish the biting carbonation hadn’t been there...
