Started foaming over as soon as the cap was cracked. Dark brown pour topped by a massive but quickly diminishing head. Coriander and earth on the nose. The flavor reminded me a lot of a farmers market, fresh produce, meaty, slightly musty. Very nice mouthfeel, carbonation has a nice zing to it. Not what I was expecting but different and pleasant. drjay44 (818), Salida, Colorado, USA

Pours a froathy short lived tan head over a clear dark brown (SRM 25) body......nose is malt, bubblegum, bit of coffee.....taste initially mild sweetish malts moving on to pineapple and pear, becoming slightly burnt malt bitter, finishing with a bit of hop type bitterness....mouth feel is very light, very highly carbonated, reminiscent of ginger ale. Burps taste like a Brown Ale. This is hard to place. It certainly is not a Wit. i guess calling it a Belgian is best but???? keepersj12 (815), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Very dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is more porter like and heavier than would be expected. Mostly chocolate and sweet malts. Flavor is very smoky malts with chocolate and coffee. Finishes very dry with a nice alcohol warmth for the season. Heathen (810), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 21, 2009 THOUGHTS: It was almost a Belgian stout. A very nice beer. I didn’t really get the black wit part until the end.. This was very hard to describe. I liked it very much, but it’s hard to explain why. I’ve really enjoyed The Bruery beers I’ve tried so far. This was like a better black velvet (Guinness and champagne). This was great.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a very dark brown that was a nearly opaque, almost black color with hints of an orange glow at the edges when held to the light. It had a huge, frothy, light brown to tan head that fully diminished, leaving virtually no lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy chocolate cake and cocoa; lighter roasted malt; moderate to heavy Bruery yeast strain; slight apple; white wine, cola, champagne and some spices. The initial flavor was sweet and rather acidic; while the finish was acidic, lightly sweet and slightly bitter. There was chocolate, oats, wheat, sour fruit, sour oranges, yeast, roasted malt, champagne, orange coffee, a little soy, slight spices and at the the end some hints of coffee. The medium to full body was a bit oily or silky for a split second, but nearly dry all the way through and also slightly sticky on the lips with very fizzy carbonation and a dry, heavily astringent and slightly chalky finish. joshwilfong (797), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2009 750 mL: brownish black with quickly disappearing, yet initially bountiful, tan head. interesting nose of some sourness combined with some dark malts. flavor is also very interesting and unique, with some tartness, likely from the lemon peal coming through followed by a present, but overwhelming, flavor some roasted malt. the finish is rather sour, with some definitely residual malt, likely a somewhat high finishing gravity for the style. a unique beer, not like anything i have had before and though i am not certain that it truly works, it was worth making and worth drinking oteyj (796), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Dark brown pour with a small off white head. Aroma is of oats, floral spice, oats caramel and toast. Flavor contains a surprising roasted barley note with some smokiness and further oat notes. Medium body with a dryish finish typical of wheat malt. Very interesting and unique. Acknud (792), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA
