Commercial Description:
Black Orchard is an unfiltered, bottle / keg conditioned Belgian-style black wheat beer, or “black wit”, if you will. This dark but surprisingly light bodied beer is very drinkable while still having character and complexity. Chamomile is added for its floral aroma, while the coriander and citrus peel give the characteristics of a traditional witbier. (ABV: 5.7%, IBU: 15, SRM: 26, Release: Year Round, Format: 750 mL bottles and 30L kegs)

Poured a hazy brown color with a beige head. The aroma was dusty with a wheaty citrus sweet lemon and mild spice. Light roasted malt flavor with again some wheaty citrus notes. Lively mouthfeel. Light bodied with a semi-dry finish. Mildly bitter finish.

750mL bottle. Poured deep brown with a dense, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweeter chocolates, brown sugar, and toasted nutty notes paired with tart orange peel, floral notes, and wheat.. there was an overriding spicy yeast presence that played well here. The flavor opened with tart floral notes, orange peel, and bone-dry yeast that imparted earth and bananas.. the core was mostly tart wheat, topped by the same sweet chocolates and nutty notes as the nose.. finished spicy and dry with more chocolate. Light-medium bodied and very well carbonated on the palate.. decent feel, but it didn’t quite flow as well as I would have liked.. overall engaging and different, but not quite great.

Black body with off-brown enormous head. Mlaty and oatmeal aroma. Fluffy mouthfeel, but also aggressive carbonation. Taste is cerial and some spice, and mollasses. Only so drinkable, needs to be shared. This BTW was a gusher.

Sampled on 12/29/2008. This “Black Wit” pours a deep black color from a 750ml bottle. Again upon opening this one was a gusher. It did allow me to pour the beer into several style glasses for an aroma and taste comparison, so it wasn’t a total loss. Large sized white/beige foamy head. The aroma is roasted malts, some coriander and some orange and citrus. A medium bodied Belgian Ale. The malts are caramel and dark fruits. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Caramel and fruity up front followed by some spices and orange and the finish. Definitely has that wit feel to it, yet also has the dark malt and fruit thing going. Very drinkable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet,
