Commercial Description:
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

Pours a wheaty yellowish brown color. Nose of lactic acid, funk, and stank ass hooker vagina...not that I would know what that smells like. Crisp stinging carbonation. Tastes of bread and bile, with a sour bite and a fruity finish. Quite nice despite the seemingly negative description.

Bottle from Frank Smith’s. Pours turbid gold with clingy white head. Nose is malty, with tart fruit, hops, lactic. Tastes crisp, tart, with hopcitrus, and the citrus is lemony but not overpowering. Tart enough to make you smack your lips and say "WOW". This one is outstanding.

Bottle… Hazy, straw-colored ale with a huge, frothy, white head. The aroma is citrusy, yeasty and a tad buttery - notes of bread dough and lemon soar from the glass. Medium-bodied with tingly carbonation. Tart and citrusy. Even at 80 degrees F, the acidity stands strong and fends off the grainy sweetness that partially impairs my enjoyment of many Berliner Weisses as they warm. Finishes crisp, tart and refreshing. Solid! Thanks to giarcsr for sending this beer my way!

750 ml bottle from SouthBay (San Diego, CA). Pours a hazy champagne color, pale yellow and well carbonated with a big white thick head that cakes well, good lacing. Aromas are a touch of citrusy lemon rind and funky wheat, almost crispix-esque. A touch of brett, lively funk. Good citrusy lemon though. Initial is a nice lemony tartness up front, a crisp wheaty malt dominance underneath with this lighter style beer. A light sourness, easily sessionable. Faint brett, the sourness grows on the palate, good lemon juice and citrus rind. I’d love to drink this on a regular basis, especially if they offered it. Crisp, refreshing, with good sourness and sessionability for what it is. Like it a good amount.

2009 Bottle - Thanks stefanje! - Pours thin and cloudy yellow with a large white head, almost like a wit...aroma is rough cut grain, lemon and some footy funk...massive carbonation, flavour is unfiltered grainy, lemon juice...lingering grain flavour that seemd impossible given the thin nature...the brett keeps it nicely dry, but the lacto gives it the pucker...I’d really love to try some with syrup at some point...

750ml bottle courtesy of my man BOLTZ7555. Pours a very fizzy slightly hazy yellow – almost like champagne with a 2 finger snow white head that surprisingly faded into a thin topper quickly. The nose is wheat, grain and lemon peel. The taste is grain, fresh wheat, grassy hops and tart lemon juice in the finish. Medium prickly mouthfeel. Not bad – very refreshing brew. Thanks Jason!

draft @ City Beer Store in San Fransisco. Mild tartness on the nose with some banana and clove notes. Pours white blonde with a solid white head that doesn’t last. Very mild funk, slightly tart with lemon and tangerine peels, the tartness is not very strong, I enjoy this beer a lot I wish it had more funk and sour notes. It is exceptionally easy to drink, maybe this is the new face of "drinkability"
