Commercial Description:
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

Tap at Sacramento Brewing. Very pale, cloudy straw color. Fizzy bu tnot much head. Tart berry nose. Thin in the mouth, kind of watery palate. Weak but interesting taste. A bit of bret yeast and some sourness that fade quickly and cleanly into a buscuit malt flavor. Not my preferred style but I respect the uniqueness.

On tap at Blue Palms, 5oz pour. Pours light, hazy gold with a small white head. Aroma has firm brett qualities, some wheat, and tartness. Body is quite light, “refreshing”, giving the perception of softened, textured water. Flavor has an initial acidic bite, before leveling into more nuanced brett elements. Finishes champagne-like dry. Not much fruit or malt coming through. A bit simple, but quite refreshing.

From tap at the brewery. Pours almost clear yellow with a small white head. Crisp milky light sourness. Sour and crisp, light milky smoothness. Very authentic. Smooth fruity touch into a dry and light sour finish.

Draft from ginger man. Pretty interesting taste and a good example of the style.

On tap. Slightly hazy yellow with a small, white head. Rather tart, lactic aroma. Light body, very bubbly with a discreet lactic tartness all through the finish. 060709 and 130709

This is a great beer. Sour and tart but refreshing. Nice carbonation to it. I will have to try the fruit version for comparison. Sampled at the Bruery’s One year anniversary party.

On tap at the Bruery.. Pours hazy golden with a thin white.. Aroma is salty dough and not much sweetness.. Dry lemon citrus flavor with lively carbonation that is suprisingly smooth and easy to drink.. Very nice!! A good sobering up beer after some Papier.

On tap @ The Brewing Network Anniversary party at Lindon Street Brewery. Pours gold. Nose is a sharp lactic sour with some citrus. Flavor is a clean lactic acidity, nice bready notes and clean floral hops. Very nice Berliner.
