Commercial Description:
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy pale blond color, fairly carbonated though head retention is low. A small white ring does stick around for the duration though. Aroma is intense lemon rind and perhaps a slight funk. Slight white wine characteristics too, a little bit of rubber. Flavor is slightly tart, a little less than I would like actually. A little more malty and full bodied than I expected. No way is this beer full bodied but for the style I was expecting less. This is pretty good. I have had only a couple other examples of this style and a homebrew so I have little basis to compare but this is good enough. Slightly pricey to buy often but not bad.

Bottle. Poured a very pale, hazy yellow color almost white with a thin white head. Nose is is somewhat malty with notes of wheat, corriander, funk, citrus, and lacto. Medium body with a prickly mouth feel. Flavor is lemon, wheat, slightly acidic with a mild lactic tartness throughout. Finishes crisp and tart. Overall pretty mild.

GABF 2009. Pours clear and sparkling light yellow with an average, frothy white head, somewhat diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (hay, straw, meal), light hop (grass), average yeast (earth) with notes of wine. Light bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a sour finish. Average duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and sourness.

Pours hazy, pale yellow with a fluffy, fizzy white head that leaves some bits of sticky lace. Smells plain and dry, grainy with a hint of tartness. Tastes plain and light grainy with some tart and sour light citrus. Light body, vibrant carbonation. Flavor leaves a little to be desired.

Pours a cloudy yellow color with a huge amount of white head. Has a lemon grass, and wheat smell to it. Taste is sour at first but finish with a wheaty taste. Decent beer overall

On tap at the Breury. Great hazy golden color. Aroma is nice and tart, fruity, and wheat. Flavor is a crisp tartness up fron, followed up by pleasant lemon, wheat. A great session beer, and terrific Berliner Weisse!

750ml bottle pours hazy golden color with a big white head that very quickly fell away to a white ring around the top of my glass. Aroma is acidic funky and malty. Flavor starts off tart and crisp with some funkiness and finishes off malty sweet and tart. Very refreshing brew for a hot September afternoon. Very nice!
