Commercial Description:
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

Rating from the bottle, though I’ve had it on tap previously. Pours straw yellow with fizzy but quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is slightly stinky, with some lemons and wheat evident. Taste is lemony and grainy. Really tart on the finish and not too fizzy on the palate. Lingers well. I really love this beer...a wonderful rendition. I need to buy more of this stuff.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Tart lemony aroma with some lighter wheaty notes. The flavor has lightly tart lemon notes up front and some wheaty notes in the finish. Really good. This would be the perfect summer afternoon beer, but still really good in the middle of a snowstorm.

Bottle from NickD717, thanks! Lemon, dust, apple and salt in the aroma. Lemon and apple in the tart flavor. Hints of melon and dust. Amazing drinkability. Thin, but lots of flavor. Very well made Berliner type weisse.

75cL bottle, no dates. Fizzy pale and yellow, stark white foam, very short retention but decent lacing. Very light on the aroma, some lemon rind and a slight lactic note. Very light flavor, little bit of malt/wheat with a heavy lacto finish. Not exactly sour, it has some lemony notes but nothing quite "sour". I still love it and would drink it with lunch every damn day if I could.

Interesting beer. A tart wheat is a good description. Pours cloudy blonde with a thick white head. Aroma of lemon, wheat, and some funk. The beer is tart, but the mellow wheat also comes through. Interesting and a complex brew for 3.1%.

bottle poured a transparent light yellow in color with a thin white head that retained a delicate ring. aroma has light acid, wheat, mellow yeast, and some faint sour lemon. mouth feel is light and crisp with enough carbonation to froth it up a bit. flavor gets sharper on the acid, white grape skins, wheat, sour lemon, light yeast, and has a finish that hangs forever. extremely flavorful but delicate at the same time. this one really impressed me.

This is an excellent berliner weisse. Bready yeasty on the nose. Lemony and tart on the palate. Finishes with sweet wheat that lingers.

Very light clear straw yellow; thin head. Very dirty aroma, overripe apples, sourdough, clay, flour. Very easy drinker. Very light, crisp. Flavor of tortilla chips. Delicate sour component. Saison Rue didn’t really hit the spot for me, but this one does. Really delicious! Don’t look now, but The Bruery is making some of the more exciting beers in the US right now.

750ml bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Pours a crystal clear, straw yellow with a nearly clear, slightly cloudy head. Tart aroma, lemons, a bit of a buttery aroma. Flavor is crisp and tart, lemons, grass. Dry finish. Nice and refreshing but a little simple.
