Commercial Description:
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

From a growler fill from the Bruery. Aroma is yeasty, with a little lemony spicy note. Pale straw, fizzy with a small white head. Sour, tart, dry and carbonated. Light and refreshing. Who needs lemonade? This would be an awesome summer beer. Awesome beer.

Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a white head. Aroma is funky, tart, some brett, and some cheese. Flavor is tart lactic acid, some wheat, a touch of funk, and a dry finish.

750. Pours a translucent but very hazy lemon-drop color with a small fine white fizzy froth. Aroma is sharp tart lemon, crisp and wheaty, not much else. Flavor is super tart and sharply lactic, missing some of the body, very crisp sourness, lemon-drop like, finishing with strikingly gritty unmalted wheat and trailing lactic sourness. Medium/light bodied, very water still, crisp combination of acidity and sharp carbonation, seemingly lacking vacant in the middle. Nice beer.

Courtesy ChzMan. Bottle. Hazy whitish yellow. White carbonation. Nice lactic tartness, tangy wheat, popcorn. The popcorn is a bit off-putting and it’s not very complex, but it’s still enjoyable and real easy to drink. Medium/light to light body, balanced carbonation, tart and tangy finish. Solid session beer.

Thanks to the Cheeseman. Light and refreshing. Lemon and popcorn in the nose. Light lemony flavor without too much tartness.

Pours a cloudy pale brew with a one finger crackly white head. Nose is acidic and lactic, mildly grassy, some lemonrind, some funk starts to come out with warmth. Flavor is very nice initially, first swallow reveals a very refreshing tart acidity, some lemon rind. However, after you let it sit you start to get some funky flavors at the back of the tongue, definitely popcorn jelly beans. This starts to become more evident with warmth. Palate is acidic and tart, very refreshing. Conflicted by how enjoyable this is initially and then the weird off flavor it presents.
