Commercial Description:
Orchard White is our Belgian-style witbier. We brew it with unmalted flaked wheat, oats, malted barley, corriander, orange peel, and lavender. This is a thirst-quenching beer that will be a year-round offering.

750ml bottle bought at Hi Times in Costa Mesa. Far too much foam on this one. I poured into my Duvel glass and maybe got a teaspoon of beer. It took three pours. Aside from that, it’s a very tasty pour. Nice crisp flavor with floral and citrus notes. I liked it.

Pours cloudy golden/white with a very nice billowy head, retention isn’t the greatest though. Aroma is sweet yeast and citrus (lemon/grapefruit). Flavor begins with sweet citrus and grapefruit and finishes with crisp herbs and subtle spice/pepper. Nice bready yeast aroma in the sinus as the beer slides down the throat. A great Witbier.

RBSG ’08: Poured a hazed pale yellow with a large white head. Herbal and spice aroma with distinct clove notes. The flavor is like an herbal soap but not in a bad way. Some sage. Light bubbly mouth feel.

750ml bottle. The pour yields a hazy, light golden-straw colored body. Fine, champagne-like carbonation cascades into a huge, rocky, spongy head of pristine white foam. Soapy sheets of fine micro-bubbles slowly separate and glide their way down the glass, back towards the surface. The aroma is elegant and inviting. Perfumy notes of lavender, lemon peel, and subtle coriander provide perfectly balanced spicing. Delicate, yeasty bread, fresh wheat, soothing oatmeal, and just a touch of candy sugar sweetness finish off the complex, beautiful nose. Flavors are equally impressive. The balanced spicing and lightly sweet, ultra-smooth bready background are a match made in heaven. Substantial and creamy in terms of palate, the mouthfeel surpasses the standard for the style by a seemingly immeasurable amount. If there is a better Witbier on the planet, I have yet to encounter it. This is a fantastic brew that sets the benchmark for style!

Courtesy SoLan. Mostly clear straw color, very thick head. Light sweet floral - different spice profile, a hint of pepper here. Slightly grainy palate. Slight sourness to the taste, light herbal notes. Not outstanding, but a slightly different take on the wit.

22-Jun-08 (750-ml bottle: Purchased 12-May-08 for $7.99 at Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA) The turbo-charged carbonation makes this a difficult and annoying beer to manage. After opening the bottle, huge, soda-like carbonation bubbles rise through the beer at an incredible speed, causing the beer to gush uncontrollably. Even after pouring about 10 ounces of beer into the glass, the foam continues to erupt from the bottle, further irritating me. As expected, the beer foams wildly in my globe glass too, covering the hazy, yellow body with three inches of bubbly, stiff, meringue-like foam. Aromas of coriander, orange peel, cobwebs, and bread. Similar flavors, but this is a really "big" tasting witbier. Very heavy breadiness and boldly spicy, and in general, it’s extremely full-flavored for a traditional style that normally shows subtlety and balance. While the beer is very tasty and bold, it’s very heavy on the palate, and despite the strong (but not quite expansive) carbonation, this beer lacks the cleansing and refreshing characteristic that makes this style so wonderful. Overall, I like the flavor and bold approach, but after several sips, this beer just gets tough to keep drinking.
