merlin48 (509), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Nov 8, 2009 Hazy peach hued body has a small offwhite head that leaves some sheet lacing on the goblet. Aroma of herbal and floral hops, a hint of funk, spicy rye, amd vague fruit. Zippy carbonation enlivens the dry medium body. Taste is dominated by dry herbal and earthy hops. Crusty rye bread note is nice. Vague spices and a fruity note of ripe green apples join with white pepper to add a sublime complexity. Really well executed. Reminds me of some of the Fantomes. Fred82 (343), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 8, 2009 750ml bottle from IPB. Pours clear pale amber with a big head. Most of it fades quickly but some stays. There is some lacing but not that much. Nose is spicy (seemed like pumpkin spice). Some brett not that much. Lots of yeasty esters and some hops. Taste is spicy and fruity with lots of yeasty esters and some hops. Light bitterness on the finish. Some hints of brett. Finish is spicy and bitter. I think Saison de Lente was way better. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Nov 7, 2009 Bottle from Root Cellar.
Poured a hazy yellow color with a large frothy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate earthy, herbs, fruit and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet & sour witty flavor with a medium to heavy spicy sweet finish of moderate to long duration.
I would recommend this to a friend. dogfish120love (250), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Nov 7, 2009 Brilliant sour farmhouse aroma. Somewhat too sweet for me personally and a little boozy. I was hoping it would be a bit dryer and a little more tart keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Nov 1, 2009 Cloudy light amber with a big long lasting head. Wonderful wine like aroma of fruit with some yeasty bread, malt. Flavor is sweet up front with the nice sourness cleaning the palate. A hint of the rye is present. Very dry and warming finish.
TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Nov 1, 2009 Bottle. Orange-amber pour with a tall, thick, frothy white head. Pretty lacing on the glass as it recedes. Aroma is spicy and floral with big yeast notes, wet earth and straw. Some ripe fruit as well as caramel can be found. Taste is rather spicy with more straw and big yeast notes. Earthy hops dried fruit and even perhaps trail mix are evident as well. Body is light-medium and very bubbly with a lingering spiciness. Ends with a bigger fruit and floral flavor, mainly pear and melon, along with big Belgian yeast, spices, tart fruit/light acidic notes, and wet earth. boamr (112), Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2009 Pours a orange color with a huge amount of white head. Has spice, orange smell to it. The taste is of yeast, spice, and a little bit of brett. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Oct 30, 2009 Excellent carbonation keeps a thick sheet of fine bubbles on the top of this brew in my chalice. I love looking at Saisons in the glass. So active and visually interesting that it begs you to take a sip of this constantly circulating elixir. Spicy and slightly funky aroma with some tart berries, yeast and wet straw. Color is a hazy dark copper. Slightly dry and grainy flavor. Definately can note the rye presence. Yeasty with a bit of tartness, herbal flavors and some honey sweetness. Lively in the mouth with a bit of alcohol heat but it blends nicely with the somewhat thicker malt backbone than typical saisons. Finishes spicy with a hint of lingering tartness. A very good saison.
