Commercial Description:
This American Wild Rye Ale was brewed with a substantial portion of rye malt, and the spicy character of the grain asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor. Add in sour cherry notes from our special blend of micro-organisms and vanilla from the red wine barrels and you’ve got a mouthful!

on tap 8/26/09 at papago... hazy orange brown with a minimal short lived white head. this smells and tastes a lot like a rye version of la folie?... the nose is spice filled... definably sweetened cinnamon, black pepper and rye with a bunch of caramel malt-like sweetness, minerals, vanilla, tart cherry and some lemon. there is something a bit funky/musty or cement like as well... tart apples pop out along with some clove in the flavor which is much like the aroma. it is a touch sweetened, caramel malty and rich yet it is incredibly controlled by a pleasant tartness and dry finish. it’s not overly puckering but it is tart fo’ sho’. i’ve never tasted a rye beer where the rye is this defined (especially in the aftertaste) while this complex as well. great mouth feel... medium bodied with soft low carbonation yet it’s sharp and prickly. 8/4/8/5/17/4.2

Tap at Stone tonight, glad I saw it while at the Firestone event, because this beer is damn good, damn damn damn good. Pours orange with a 1 finger bright white ring. Nose is super tart, funky and vinegary. Taste is very tart but nothing like the nose, drinkable with nice fruity notes. I really like the balance of flavors in this beer and it is incredibly drinkable!

Tap at Downtown Johnny Brown’s Barrel Age night during SDBW: Big vinegar-like sour nose, with a sweet and surprisingly vivid wave of vanilla and sweet candied cherry. Dark color with solid sheet of wispy suds atop. Sweet, somewhat vinegar flavors, some cherry...very clean sour flavors and body...reminds a bit of la folie though sourness might not be as biting as la folie and I think the red wine notes make this one stand out...maybe the vanilla notes in the nose could have been more present in the flavors. otherwise, fucking very very very well done sour ale.

Pouring at the Night of the Funk event in Boston. Pours a hazy browned amber. Light caramel, spicy rye, and some fruit. Sweet and tangy. Finishes up crisp and dry with a tangy apricot note.

Sample at Night of the Funk 2009: Hazy golden pour with a dense light tan head. Fruity dense aroma with a sweet bready presence and mild cherry/lactic tartness. Creamy body with thick fluffy carbonation. The flavor imparts a fruity and lactic tartness as well with a rich balancing malt backbone. Dry, fluffy and tart- a nice and interesting sour. Malty and rich yet well attenuated.

On tap at The Burery. Color was similar to the Snicklefritz, an orange/amber. Aroma of fruit, yeast, rye and vinegar; some cherry and caramel too. Flavor of rye, caramel, fruit and cherries. A good dose of vinegar and quite sour. Some uniqueness here.
