Thanks to whoever popped this at the ORF release! Brown pour with garnet hues. Aroma is chocolate and light spice. Caramel, toasted grains, hazelnut and spice. Finish is dry and chocolaty. On the verge of being cloying

20091220 750ml bottle from Wine World in Abingdon. Darkest brown with ruby highlights, lasting brown head. Aroma is full of dark fruits, walnut, spice cake. Full bodied, creamy, sweetish for a Bruery beer, finishing dry with cocoa notes. Cocoa comes through nicely with temp, good interplay with the yeast and roasty malts. Hard to say it, but I think this beer would benefit from some time in American oak. It could use the depth and vanilla notes as I find it oddly lacking in complexity for a beer a big as this one, especially considering the use of cocoa and nut adjuncts. Still solid.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nutty malty aroma with some sweeter caramel notes. The flavor is far more intense than the aroma. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and a lighter fruity sweetness. Intense and quite original. Very enjoyable.

A nice offering, brownish red with nice looking head. Lots of dry cocoa powder and pecan nuttiness with some other dark fruits. Nice beer...thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing.

750mL bottle from Wally’s. Aroma: toffee/butterscotch candy. Bready. A little bit vinous. Some chocolate. I get a bit of pecan, but more in the flavor. Belgian golden raisin business. Finish: a moderate amount of alcohol coming through which is actually beneficial to the beer. It’s nicely complementary to the toasty. Really nice pillowy soft chocolate mixing with the nuttiness, maybe a little too much vinous character for my taste. This is approaching room temperature and really coming into it’s own. It’s still a little too sticky; could have used a bit more attenuation. Damn, those cocoa nibs are awesome in the finish-heavenly powdery, silty chocolate right in the middle of the tongue. Yum. Just a little too thick.

750 ml. Opaque black with a small head that doesn’t last. Aroma is coffee, caramel, raisin, and chocolate. Flavor is caramel, coffee, chocolate, tart cherry and light wood. Medium-heavy body is watery and roasty-dry. Well-hidden 12 %.

750 ml bottle - pours dark brown with a thick, pretty dark tan head; chocolate and spice and quite perfumy at first; hint of sourness present too; quite strong and syrupy on first sip; chocolate, booze, vanilla, dark fruits and yeasty spice; doesn’t really come together though and it is quite sweet; this is one of those strange beers that are released but are intended to age (as part of the series), but who knows what will happen with age; why not just make a better beer that’s ready to drink now?

750 mL bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, and roasted nuts. There’s an awful lot going on with the flavor of this one. Some raisin, cocoa, espresso, and Belgian yeast. Not sure, totally, what to make of this one but it is interesting.
