Draft pint at the Flying Saucer, Raleigh. This is some dark, dark red stuff ... the thin tan head stays for a while with a bit of malty aroma to accompany it. The beer leans to the sweet side, malty and subtley sugary, almost vinegary ... or is Granny Smith apple? On the tangier end of the spectrum. (#2831, 4/27/2007)

Good color, but the subtle tastes that others describe to me is covered with an overall sour and dust taste. This would be a good batch coming from a homebrewer like myself, but I expect more from professionals.

Bottle, best by 04-07. Red-orange with medium head that fades pretty quickly. Aroma is sweet malt, nuts and Belgian yeast-like bubblegum esters. Taste is similar, with esters on front and cereal grain and slight hops on the end. I’m guessing the low score is from it not being according to "style", and not being exactly like every other amber. It is not what I would expect in an amber, but I like beers that think balance doesn’t always have to begin at 50 IBUs. Quality beer.

Bottle. Pours a nice copper color with a sizable amount of chunk off-white head. Aroma is very malty, caramel and some hops. Flavor is also caramel, malty with a decent amount of hops. Nothing to go crazy about about, but a decent and easy-to-drink brew.

Copper pour with a thin filmy head. Floral aroma witha bit of malty sweetness. Malty taste, some caramel and nuttiness. Finish is dry, bland. Ho-hum.
