Bottle: Jet black pour with a tan halo of a head. Big espresso notes come strong from the get-go...notes of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and a smokey/woodsy tone present as well. This is really quite intense on the nose in a wonderful way. Nice body to this, starts of silky and slowly thins out a bit and allows the full range of flavors to shine through. Though somewhat boozy, this is massive in terms of overall flavor...notes of mocha espresso, black cherries and dark malts. Wonderful stuff.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with hellbilly. Pours black with a very thin brown head that completely disappeared after the first sip and left no lace. Pleasant aroma of malt and chocolate, a bit subdued actually. Thankfully this beer is more flavorful than the aroma suggests with lots of malt, molasses, and some dates as well. Very boozey in the aftertaste with a bit of a burn. Good stuff.

Pour was dark brown with a quickly dissipating head and no lacing. Weak aroma of sour milk and chocolate. The flavor was right hook to the jaw...bold presence of chocolate, some bitter coffee notes, some mild lactic presence and a huge boozy alcohol burn. This beer is definitely bold and aggressive, but it almost left me feeling like they were trying a bit hard and the beer was bordering on a mess of flavor. Thanks to eaglefan538 for the bottle!

Bottle from kp. Thanks Keith! Pours yellowish black with little head. Sweet aroma that smells a lot like coffee syrup (or whatever that stuff I experienced in Rhode Island was called). Some grain, coconut and tobacco notes also in the aroma. The aroma is much more complex than the taste, and is the kind of aroma you want to just sit there and take in. Taste is sweet-bitter in that order. Starts off with sweet maple, chocolate and coffee notes and moves quickly into coffee ground bitterness. Decently balanced. Alcohol is very warming.

a nice smoky baltic porter.....I think it is darn good...but lacking a bit in total complexity....ehhhhh not worth trading for in my opinion

12 oz. bottle - pours jet black and big chocolate colored head that fades quickly; creamy layer along the edges and minor lacing; aromas more robust than expected and not of the standard baltic porter; thin body and strong flavors of chocolate and roasted nuts; alcohol is obvious and overall a very stout-ish beer; sweet finish and overall not that impressed; got a few of these in trades, so will be nice to revisit

Updated Rating 11/27/09: sampled this again a while back (10-08 bottle); thin, black and flat; sweet and roasty with lots of candy; super dry and thin body; way too sweet for me; after several times sampled, i’d say this is similar to the bourbon county stout for me as a beer i just don’t see what the fuss is all about

This is an awesome looking brew poured into a tulip glass. Dark, dark, dark. No light whatsoever escapes. A rich, cocoa colored head slowly builds as I pour this. I end up with about a half inch thick of creamy, milkshake like foam, which slowly settles and leaves a ring around the edges. As I swirl the beer, tiny bits of foam stick to the glass, and you can see the legs slowly slip down the side of the glass. Very impressive!! Aroma is fantastic. Espresso, toffee, chocolate milk, slightly alcoholic, a bit of fruitiness, almost like a dark chocolate covered cherry cordial. The taste doesn’t disappoint. Milk chocolate, cappucino, slightly bitter from alcohol and coffee flavors. Rich, smooth, velvety mouthfeel, with a definite alcohol burn. Lingering bitter aftertaste leaving you with a nice warmth all the way down. Overall this beer completely lived up to my high expectations. A bit rich for more than one at a time, but slow down and savor this one. Delicious. Don’t pass it by if you see it on the shelves

sampled at DLD - Pours black with a thin tan head. The aroma is of dark roast malt, chocolate, and some dark fruits. It has a robust flavor with, for the style, a surprising amount of dark fruit flavors to go with the roast malt and coffee. It’s sweet, full bodied, and finishes dry. This beer is really excellent. More please. Now please.
