Commercial Description:
The Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter is deep, rich and velvety soft. A full blooded roasty character is balanced by complex alcohol notes. Strong (9% alcohol by volume) yet unfailingly subtle, this special brew warrants sipping and savoring.

Thanks for the bottle, Duane, good until August of 2008. The body is perfect black with an orangeish brown head. The aroma is strong coffee with some anise hints and molasses. The taste has some very sweet molasses. There is also some light coffee and a tart cherry finish. This has a boozy finish with an overall smooth body. Nice smelling, but the tartness really did not balance well with the rest of the beer. Some friends that know their stuff tell me that the tart finish comes from molasses that has gone bad. Maybe this one is better when fresh.

Bottle at DP 4 ME weekend of t-shirt banter tasting. Alround rating: Roasty, chocolate, fruity, alcohol, rum soaked plums, acidic and oxidised dark fruits. This is more like how a roasty beer should taste.

Bottle from Ucusty pours black with a thick tan head. Smells like alcohol, roasted malts, and licorice. Tastes like licorice and a complex array of malts. Finish is smooth and silky. Very tasty.

Bottle. As sweet as this baltic porter is, it is not cloying — balanced by roasted malts and licorice. Opaque brown pour with a frothy, but short, head that diminishes quickly. The enticing aroma is sweet with molasses and caramel. There are strong notes of roasted malts and licorice and hints of sweet chocolate and plums. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Dry, bitter finish. Medium body and watery texture with a middle-of-the-road carbonation. The body was less full than expected and perhaps that is one of the reasons this seems like a dangerous drinker — clean throughout. Very nice, indeed.

12oz bottle: Pours deep brown, nearly black with a swirly tan head. The nose is sharp with lots of sweet chocolate and sugary raisins. Notes of plums and cherries as well. The body isn’t as chewy as expected, I am assuming to the lagering. Bitter chocolate and cherry juice are upfront, with a second surge of fudgey chocolate, vanilla, coffee and nuts. Finishes really sweet, almost cane sugar sweet. Interesting and complex.
