It taste like bacon grease or pork rinds...Unless I had a funky bottle or something? Strong alcohol presence on the palette. Funky finish and an annoying cloying aftertaste of well for lack of better words bacon grease..I was somewhat disappointed by this one after it being rated 100...I had one and don’t care to try it again..even from me . a huge porter and stout fan...this one just doesn’t do it.. undsioux7 (559), Cologne, Minnesota, USA

Pours a deep black with a thin head that quickly disappears. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and maybe a touch of fruit. Taste is very good, with Chocolate, rasins, smoke, molasses and a slightly sour taste that is balanced by the sweetness. 9%.......I’d never expect this beer to be so strong wow! Very good baltic porter, and a very good overall beer. princesslala (37), North Carolina, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 18, 2008 When I take a whiff of this beer, I get a nose full of sweet smelling malts. It makes me want an Oreo cookie really badly, because I can imagine instantly from the smell that the cream and chocolate flavors would compliment this beer very well. It poured very black with a good bit of tan head. The flavor was like burnt chocolate chip cookie dough without the chocolate chips. It has a strangely comforting taste, like a middle school home ec project gone wrong, turned into a slick, tasty beer. I really enjoyed this beer and it just makes me giddy...maybe it’s just the high abv... hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Updated: Apr 27, 2009bottle 2007 courtesy of ucusty... almost viscous dark brown pour topped by a small brown head with purple and orange tints. the head fades quickly to a thin film. the aroma is fruity, sour, chocolate, wood, coffee, licorice, malt powder, something meaty and a bunch of sweetness. alcohol jumps out and singes my nose. the flavor is all sugar and alcohol... not cloying but enough to hide the nuances. along with all the sugar there’s also hints of chocolate, smoke, dark raisins, vanilla and a huge dose of unpleasant sourness. it finishes surprisingly dry and leaves behind a fruity coffee/astringent aftertaste. medium bodied with a light mouth feel from the high level of carbonation. 7/4/7/3/16=3.7
2006 bottle by way of kenb... thick brown pour with a brownish orange head which fades to nothing rapidly. licorice and malt powder dominate the nose. sweetness and chocolate aromas play a secondary role. the licorice really becomes noticeable as does a molasses note. the unpleasant sourness has faded a bit but it still makes itself known. nice dry finish with chocolate in the aftertaste. this is notably smoother than the fresh bottle but i’m not sure how since there’s nothing in the bottle. it’s had a chance to mesh and settle down?7/4/8/4/16=3.9

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Pours coffee black with a decent head that reduces rather rapidly to a thin ring of lace. Aromas are powerful with chocolate and roasted espresso. Full nectar with very lively effers that create an almost creamy texture. It has the consistantcy of chocolate milk. Chocolate malted sweetness followed by a moderate roast component. Some leather, molases, and tar can be spotted in the distance. The finish is long with sweet coffee and a touch of sour. Overall: this brew is thick and very rich. It coats the palate and sticks like glue.Decent balance. The only thing that bothers me is a faint rootbeer essence. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Courtesy of Degarth. Pours deep dark with dark brown edges and tan foam ring of foam. The aroma is a bit of roasty malts, bigger burnt malts follow shortly after along with chocolate malts, coffee grounds and a mild earthiness. Really nice aroma but missing the dark fruity esters that are a typical contributor to the Baltic Porter style. The taste is thick and rich and velvety. I get roasty malts, burnt malts, coffee and chocolate malts that seem very much like an Imperial Stout. There is a sweetness that runs underneath all the roasty malt notes. Very enjoyable but misses the style in flavor and aroma. MI2CA (1266), Noblesville, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Sample Hotshots Feb Indy tasting - Aroma is roasted chocolate malts, smoke and a real earthy peat smell that blends in with some vanilla. Pours black with red highlights, a ring head and not much lacing. Flavor is intense (and I have had a lot of samples by this time), strong and burley. Chocolate, some coffee bitterness, black licorice, vanilla extract, prune and smoke. Palate is mouth wateringly sticky. Wow, this beer is not for the weak of heart. I like it!
