Commercial Description:
The Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter is deep, rich and velvety soft. A full blooded roasty character is balanced by complex alcohol notes. Strong (9% alcohol by volume) yet unfailingly subtle, this special brew warrants sipping and savoring.

Bottled, Beer #3 in the evening of epic tastings with jarspag on the 2/9 Death Metal. Pitch black, velvety pour with transparent maroon edges and some reddish bubbles and surface swirls. The aroma is fantastic! Chocked full of licorice, toasted biscuit, anise, black cherry and chocolate liqueur. Some floral hops are noticeable as well. The flavor is a complex blend of sweet dark fruits, roasted chocolate malts with an espresso undertone. Some tangy citrus makes a statement in the finish, with more lingering sweet liqueurs and burnt wood. The palate is chewy and soft, with a good bitterness and a touch of acidity. Nice!

Courtesy of Degarth. Dark brown or black pour, I can’t tell which, but it’s completely opaque. Dark brown head that is about 2 fingers thick comes to the top and stays a while. Nice retention and some sheet lacing. Finally resolves to a ringing of foam that never leaves. Nose of coffee, huge roasted malts, chocolate - Belgian and milk and then really more coffee/roasted notes. Doesn’t smell like a Baltic Porter to me at all. Really missing any of the fruity notes that that style usually features. Flavor is very similar, this tastes like an Imperial Porter, and probably would be if RB had such a style. Tons of chocolate and sweet dark malts, but also a huge amount of roastiness and coffee grounds. Alcohol is very well hidden in both the aroma and the flavor profile, I wouldn’t have guessed this was 9%, probably more like 7%. Chewy, full bodied, sweet palate. Finish is incredibly long, milk and dark chocolate, coffee grounds and beans, roasty malts throughout. Great beer.

Pours black with a fine, moderate, tan head. Aroma is very soy sauce like, with some minor metallic qualities. Very smoky flavor. pretty heavy mouth feel. Clingy smokiness at the end. Rather warm beer. 2006 Vintage, thanks to radiomgb!

Thanks Harry. Couldn’t believe I got to have this. Black, black, black with a creamy, coffee, malt-spice aroma. Bitter-chocolate cream flavour with a sour finish, so much is going on here, but incredibly balanced. Fantastic wonderful cream notes in the finish too. Magic

Not really what I was expecting, not being very familiar with the baltic porter style. Definitely malty, sweet, and a bit fruity. Very good brew once I wrapped my head around it. I will probably get this again to give it more attention.

Thanks MuenchenerKindl for the opportunity to sample this one 12 oz poured into the Duvel tulip produced a finger of tan head on top of a jet black body. The head subsides to a beautiful lace and a nice film around the glass The aromas of sweet malts and roasted coffee as well as some smoke Sweet, malt, cream dark fruits and anise very complex flavors a nice balance for your taste buds Mouthfeel is full and smooth; yes it could use a little more carbonation Great beer to sit, sip and enjoy slowly. Filling so I don’t think I do more than one in a sitting but I do want more. First beer I had from Duck Rabbit can’t wait to try some more of their brews

Maybe I’m not as big of a fan of big dark beers as I once thought. This is a nice beer for what it is though... jet black, not much head. Aroma is roasted malt, with a salty soy sauce character. Flavor is roasty and salty. The sweetness is there, but it comes and goes. Mainly comes on strong and finishes dry.

Thanks for sharing another gem Yaniv! Dark dark brown black with decent tan head, thinning rather rapidly. Lightly creamy acidity. Chocolate. a bit of floral hops. Really smooth, truly surprising. Smooth subdued body with fine bubbles and perhaps a bit of something in it like chalk? Not bad, just full. Shallow caramel sweetness with a bit of acidity reigning it in. A bit of restrained creaminess. Some roast, alcohol, floral hops. Rather surprised by the lingering alcohol and associated warming. Roasty acidity. This is really more like a sophisticated little imperial stout thinner and more balanced on the sweetness than an even sweeter usual baltic porter. A nice beer, one to keep an eye peeled for.
