Commercial Description:
The Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter is deep, rich and velvety soft. A full blooded roasty character is balanced by complex alcohol notes. Strong (9% alcohol by volume) yet unfailingly subtle, this special brew warrants sipping and savoring.

12 oz. bottle via trade with Ty5592 and a gift from decaturstevo - Pours a thick black color with a one finger thick tan head. Not much lacing. Aroma is very nice and a little difficult to pin down. Aroma is chocolate, cherry, light coffee, and light molasses. Flavor is a bitter sweet chocolate with some light esters. Has a lingering bitter, roasted malt aftertaste. A smooth, full bodied beer. The alcohol isn’t too noticeable. The mouthfeel almost has a fizz to it. I haven’t had a beer like this before. An excellent beer. My other bottle should be just about perfect this summer. Thanks Ty and Steve.

The element of greatest surprise was that there wasn’t one at all, I knew Duck Rabbit could pull this off after trying five of their other brews before this one. I did not, however, expect this to taste just like I had anticipated, that certainly is a rare occasion. But I had a feeling this would be a juicy and lively porter going into it, possibly with a subtle Americanized twist...nail it they did. This could be mistaken as a smoky, robust porter or a chocolatey imperial stout from Latvia, as it were. Courtesy of Jayg and Rayg1, thank you gentlemen. A dense dark brown head balances atop a jet black viscous body. Retention is subpar but the lacing remaining is thick and plentiful. Large roasted malt dominates the substantial aroma and would turn out to be less roasty in the flavor, more of a balancing agent off-setting hefty sweetness. Also noted in the nose are nuts(cashew, almond), coffee, chocolate, light caramel, vanilla, molasses and dates. Wow, what an aroma! Flavor is no joke either. A skillful blend of bigger chocolate and dark fruits with roast that is substantial but never bothersome. The palate is thick, chewy and at the same time so slick it feels like it’s sliding down my throat faster than I can manage to swallow it. Mouthfeel is very lively and vibrant. Finishes with a looming alcohol warmth and a bittersweet chocolate composition. Beautiful; this breweries’ best effort and a testament to the skill of the brewer.

Many thanks to OldGrowth for shipping this out to me! Pours black as night with a thin, tan head. Wonderful smokey, roasted aroma. Almost reminded of mesquite. A very interesting blend of roasted bitterness and a malty sweetness taste. Slight chocolate and coffee. Very rich. Friggin tasty.

Pours a thick black with a hazy light tan head. Smells aof sweet toasty malts, dark fruit, light coffee, and a hint of vanilla. Alot sweeter than I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise. get a mixture of chocolate, coffee, and blackberries that adds the sweetness. It makes for an interesting combo for a porter and it is a welcomed difference from alot of the porters Ive had before. great job.

Bottle courtesy of Rayg1, thanks man! This aroma was so good that it was close to a 5! Sweet roasted chocolate malt dominated this beer. Left a nice ring around the glass. Flavor was good but a little bitter at first and hoppy. Light mouthfeel but turned into a smooth beer. Great beer wish I could get this around my area. Update: New bottles are not tasting as good as my first experience. Hopefully they can get this beer back on track.

12oz bottle via trade with CaptainCougar. Aroma: Lots of chocolate, cream, dark fruits, smoke, anise, molasses, and yeast. Appearance: Dark, oily looking black pour. Medium tan head was full and creamy with a slight reddish cast to it. Great retention and lacing. Flavor: Alot of the same from the aroma. Chocolate, cream, coffee, dark fruits, anise, and yeast. Coffee and smoke into the finish. Medium dry finish. Alcohol is certainly present and reminds me a bit of some high quality brandys. Finishes clean with just a little lingering malt and smoke. Palate: Full bodied and a little slick on the palate. Moderate carbonation. Light alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: Great beer. Aroma was great, and flavor fell just short of matching it. A great beer to sip at the end of a cold evening.
