Aroma has notes of caramel, alcohol, spice, brandy, some herbal hops, and bread. Nice dark amber hue with a small off-white head that almost fully diminished and left virtually no lace. Flavor is caramel, herbs, alcohol, with some sherry, red wine, brandy/cognac, and over ripe dark fruit hiding near the finish. Palate is medium-full bodied and soft. Not a bad barley wine by any means but is still kind of young. Bottle says best taste in 12/08 so I’ll see then if it’s aged well. There is something in the nose and flavor that’s a little off. Kind of a metal, vagina, or herbal note that I’m hoping will diminish with age. A good one none the less and I’m hoping a year will bring out more of that lovely sherry/port flavor I detected. Taste of hops, nuts, malt, spice and copper. Some caramel and dark fruits dance around at the end. Its good but not that special. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA

Amber bodywith tan head and a halo of lacing left on glass after pour. The alcohol presence in aroma was not really reflected in the flavor. Thick chewy caramel flavor along with some licorice. Mild caramel swetness lingers on palate. Good Brew. Hank1980 (764), Athens, Georgia, USA

The aroma is mostly dark fruit and hops. The taste is really fruity with some cherries and sour aspects. The hops do stand out, but are not really too bitter. A small alcohol warmth, and some nutty taste. I enjoyed this one. A good BW, quite easy to drink and smooth. BigMilly8 (376), Holiday, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2008 From bottle : Pours clear dark amber color, with a foamy off white head, that has big sticky lacing. Alcohol smell, and grapes, i smell the grapes too. Sweet taste, with malts and only a tad bit of alcohol on the end. Thin to medium palate and very smooth. Goes down easy for the high alcohol content. I agree with the other reviews, that it lacks any real complexity. Maybe some age will help.
