12 oz bottle from JCB - thanks Jason! I got this back in March 07 - no dates, but I would imagine it is an 06 vintage. Not sure. Anyway, pours a lightly hazed reddish orange, a massive, tan meringue head that rises about a half inch over the lip of my Duvel glass. Sweet caramel nose, syrupy malt, peach and toffee. Sweet, sugary flavor, caramel and light molasses, a mild fruity tone. Full, syrupy body coats every nook and cranny of my mouth. Very drinkable, alcohol is very light in the flavor considering the high percentage. Nice!

Bottle, thx to the_epeeist. It pours a dark golden to copper body, with a lovely, dense, off-white head. It has a malty-sweet nose with a fruity hoppyness, but it’s not as pronounced as I could wish for. The flavor is sweet and malty as well, with a fruityness from the hops, but maybe a bit low on hops, even though I tend to like the barley wines on the sweet and malty side. Full body, maybe a bit sticky in the mouth. The bitterness in this beer is most evident in the long finish. Having this after Victory Old Horizontal was a little down-trip, and maybe not fair to the beer, but it’s far from being bad though. Very far. (071123)

Pours clear mahogany with an off-white head. The aroma is largely dried fruit with some caramel, but there is a fishy aroma thing going on here that detracts in a big way. Smooth, slightly sweet. Not much complexity here.

A 12 oz bottle shared by Springlicker. A deep amber pour with a light off white head. Aroma is spicy not fruity a bit of a brown sugar thing. Flavor that is a bit bland but as it goes on it in the drink improves. Much more thin and lacking character than I would have hoped for. As compared to the other offerings from these guys this beer is lacking compared to them and to the style as well. I will drink it again and give it another chance.

The Dan Journal #140. 12oz bottle. Mildly sedimented with an amber hue. Finger width of beige head. Fruity maple nose. Dark fruits and sweet breads. Full bodied with a nice big roast. Sticky with a long finish. Citrus hops in the finish. Slightly musty with a citrus effervescence. Big caramel flavors and a big alcohol presence. Very nice. Sweet mild malts. Good hop finish. Well done.

Hazy red to dark amber color; nice creamy head and lace. Powerful aroma, malty and sweet, with a touch of apples. Very sweet flavor, malty, with a touch of wood (at least bringing in some light astringency to counterbalance). A bit off track, but very enjoyable for me.
