I think this is very underrated, one of the better barleywines that fairly easy accessible. Pours a light brown, with an almost yellow hue, and tinges of amber as well. Aroma is nice, a great mix of dark fruits, hops, yeast, alcohol, brown sugar, honey, and gumdrops. Flavor is great, malt, yeast, grain, hops, caramel, toffee, plums, brown sugar. Hints of vanilla and wood. Nice slight alcohol burn and a creamy medium mouthfeel. I loved this.

12oz bottle courtesy of bhalter8. Pours a dark brown mahogany color with a thin tan head that settles quickly. Aroma is sweet and malty with some notes of ripe dark fruit, caramel, honey, grain, raisins, brown sugar, some hints of floral hops and coffee. Flavor is sweet and malty as well with notes of anise, floral hops, ripe dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar and hints of spice. Generally medium body with a floral hoppy finish.

12oz bottle pours ruby and brown with a fairly thick tannish head. Caramel, buttered popcorn, prunes and acidic qualities in the aroma. Slight herbal and floral hop bitterness with a good amount of sweetness to back it up. Bit astringent at the end. Not bad.

bottle @ Coles Barleywine Festival 2009. Shared with blipp, bill metzger & dick cantwell of Elysian brewing. Pours an shimmering amber. almost glossy like sherry. Sweet malts, piney hops load up the nose. taste follows up in a similar way. pretty well balanced. decent

Bottle at Coles in Buffalo, NY. Pours amber with an off white head. Malty sweet aroma with just a hint of hops. The flavor starts on a sweet malty note, and just enough hops come through to balance. Pretty good.

Didn’t think I would see this in a bottle at Taco Mac in Atlanta. Nice off-white looking head. A decent translucent, almost transparent beer. Nice dark brown color. Heavy malt aroma. Didn’t think the beer had the hop flavor I was looking for. Alcohol, as many of you have stated, was fairly noticeable. The palate wasn’t that great, considering it wasn’t as creamy or as smooth as I was hoping that it would be. This beer lacked hops, that was the biggest problem with it. I was happy to try it, but I think they could have added more hops. Overall, a decent, and fairly alcoholic barley wine, with a great malt aroma and flavor. Don’t expect there to be a hop taste, or aroma present.

I thought this was a solid Barleywine and would be rated a little higher. Thanks to Bobby91w for sneaking this bottle into our trade. Pours a ruby reddish color with a thin tan head. A little hops in the aroma, as well as sugar and caramel malt. A little alcohol burn, but still smooth for a 11% beer. I enjoyed it.

Bottle. Strong ripe fruit and alcohol aroma. Deep reddish amber body, no head. Fruity flavor, moderately sweet, with alcohol. Not bad.
