Served at cellar temp with aroma of caramel, vanilla and some earthy woodness, maybe birch. Nice rich sweetness them only a touch of bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied and decent carb. Nothing super complex but just a plain good barley wine. 11% is a little hot but I see this aging well. curly (759), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Pours a mostly clear amber color with no real head to speak of. Aroma consists of toffee, madera wine, bread, yeast, floral hops and bitter orange peel. Flavor is really nice. Sweet with a great little hop bite. I get almonds, honey, orange peel, booze and some light brown sugar. This is a really good barleywine. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Barleywine’s aren’t a typical style I drink a lot, but I really enjoy them. And Duck Rabbit’s offering of one is outstanding. The beers a dark amber color with a tan head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is of bread, caramel malt and bright hops. The body is full and delicious, with more notes of bread, earth, caramel, hops and grass. There’s a bit of a hint of alcohol in the finish, along with some brighter notes of hops and citrus.
