Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Mar 5, 2009 This is pretty neat. This very dark brown beer has no head because it is from a cask. It’s just got some bubbles. Obvious coffee in the aroma but not too bold. The taste cracks me up. It’s total iced coffee. Cool and refreshing and bitter as hell. This beer is sorta one-dimensional but that dimension is awesome. OldGrowth (1407), North Carolina, USA Dec 18, 2008 pint from cask at Raleigh Times, good aroma, Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, minor berry. Blackish brown color, good head that faded to a ring, nice lace all the way down. Sweet bitter flavor. like aroma with a vinious bitterness. Medium body, smooth creamy mouth feel, mild bitter finish. good brew, Flavor was favorite part, coffee was subdued so it had classic porter taste with coffee really showing itself as I rolled it around in my mouth. Definitely want to have a non cask version to compare as I feel like cask usually subdues aromas.
