Sampled at the Blues and Brews festival. Thanks to Ryan and Matt (Frumpty and Facto) for sharing. Pours a hazy brown. Nose is sweet and dry, honey much less apparent in the Barley Wine braggot when compared to the RIS one. The honey is much more subdued in this one when compared to the Rabid Braggot. At this point I definitely prefer the Rabid Braggot although this one was tasty to try. My preference for the Rabid Braggot may also be due to my preference for the Rabid Duck over the BW. To each his own.

Jul 27, 2008 Thanks to frumpy for sharing this at the Carolina crew gathering! I really enjoyed this mead, slightly more than then the rabbid braggot. It might be b/c it has had a little more time or whatever? Honey and alcohol on the nose. Excellent flavor; hops, honey, and yeast. slightly dry on the finish!

Jul 26, 2008 Sampled at the Carolina Crew Gathering. Thanks to the DR crew for sharing. Reddish orange pour. Plenty of honey and booze in the aroma. Sweet honey, bready and yeasty. fairly full bodied. DIdn’t pick up any hops in the finish like other raters. Interesting and enjoyable brew.

Jul 22, 2008 Bottle provided by Ryan, Paul, and Matt. Thanks guys. Pours dark amber with a light white lace. Nose has a lot of alcohol ( as I smell in almost every mead I have ever had), honey, brown sugar, a tiny bit of hops. Flavor is much more mellow than the aroma with a smooth caramel and honey flavor with a warm alcoholic finish. Exceptionally smooth palate for a mead. Overall, very well done.

Jul 20, 2008 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to Facto and Frumpty for sharing! A glowing impressive pour, vibrant amber with a fairly still body but some carbonation remaining nonetheless. A slight bit of booze in the nose, with lots of delicious honey coming through - not in an overly sweet way, just a mellowed and subdued quality that suits the characteristics of this underrated barleywine. Strong toffee notes in the finish make this quite nice, even if something I’d only drink very rarely.

Jun 11, 2008 The color was a light golden/orange. The head was thin, fizzy, and off-white. The aroma was slightly hoppy and sweet. The flavor was the same. It wasn’t as impressive as the Rabid Braggot, but it was still good. The palate was medium-bodied. The finish was hoppy.
